This is the same for the wheel with a beaver running in it. I loved how everything else was actually turning the right way, would love to see this detail fixed ^^

Not necessarily important, but basically you might have some kind of gearing system in a waterwheel to increase/decrease torque/power depending on your use case and depending on how the gears are setup the output shaft might rotate in a different direction.

Let's say it's unavoidable. And let's think of it as "Waterwheel always have gear set to reverse output rotation internally"

Because the network could have power from multiple waterwheel going opposite direction. U-Turn flow of water, for example, we could make artificial canal and put waterwheel over it. Both waterwheel would go opposite direction. Then what would happen if we connect it with direct shaft?

it's unavoidably that the shaft must be opposite of one waterwheel. and so it more logical to just let it be and presume that there must be preferred rotational direction of the power network. So the Waterwheel was always built to output power of rotation in the the direction of network

Might be interesting to see an optional mode which forces you to obey gear rotations. Would make for a nice additional challenge, to my mind, and personally the thought of having an entire intricate gears-and-shafts layout all rotating the right and proper ways pleases the little gamer-OCD gremlin in my brain xD

I like the current way the gears interact with the power shafts. It is not a direct connection, and has gears transferring between the wheels and the shafts. If you look closely, you will see the gears also.

i have noticed in my playthroughs that the powershaft coming from the waterwheel turns in the opposite direction from the waterwheel it self.
not a bug as such but it plays havoc with my ocd XD
would be nice if it turned in the same direction.

all my water wheels are running in the opposite direction to all the shafts they are connected to. also water wheels connect3ed next to each other with different flow rates also look kind of weird. you would think that everything being connected together on the same grid would also move at the same speed, and you would think that. waterwheels that are connected to each other would not stop moving ever as long as their is water flow, the variable speed of the water wheels is fine and it is a nice visual indicator to show which ones have water flow. but just having them al run at the same speed based on the average flow of the system would look much cleaner in my opinion, then the water wheels can all speed up and slow down together, it would be cool to see the shafts also speed up and slow down along with the water wheels, making everything feel linked together

After the patch that just deployed, during the tutorial with default settings, when a single horizontal shaft is used to connect the water wheel to the mill, the shaft will rotate in the opposite direction of the water wheel. In my case, when viewed from the water wheel side, the water wheel runs counterclockwise but the shaft is turning clockwise. This has no apparent effect on the operation of the mill.

I just assumed this happened because shafts will spin according to placement rotation. Will have to do more testing, maybe make every other shaft in a long path alternate the rotation.

I just wanted to add my comment to this. I get that it could be the case that the water wheel could be geared and that would explain the wheel turning in a different direction the the shaft, but I think it would look much better if they turned the same way. As soon as I noticed it I felt like it looks.. wrong. And now I can't un-see it!

I noticed that a power shaft rotates clockwise when connected to a water wheel that rotates counter-clockwise, or vice versa. The water wheel rotation is already correct regarding to the river flow, and power shafts connected with each other also rotate in the correct order.

When connected to a waterwheel (say, spinning counter clockwise (ccw))... The shaft is spinning clockwise.

I understand that there are possibilities where more than one power source could be connected going in separate directions, but, would be nice to set it from the direction of the initial power source.
