Combat / Defense (War, Warfare, Fighting, Battles, Enemies)
It would be cool to have a watch / lookout tower on like hard mod or something, every now and then you get attacked and over time the mobs get hard and more of them?
In other games (Stonehearth) you could unlock the archer class and mage class and so on to help you defend, you could make walls to help bottle neck when the mobs could attack you and set your defenders to watch that one area and so forth.

Respawn MergedIn real life beavers build their dams to build a safe spot in the middle of the water. This should protect them from predators like Wolves, Coyotes or Mountain lions.
These creatures could be added as extra diffeculty, this could lead to ways for players think more about how they build, for example build the lodges on (artificial) islands to ensure the beavers are safe near their houses.
But farmers and woodcutters are in danger, this can be prevented by building lookout post to detect these enemies (like a raid mechanic) just before they arive, and you can ring the alarm and let all beavers retreat to their homes, raise the bridges and they are safe.
if not, the wolfs will for example take each one beaver (amount of enemies based on size of colony).
each of these enemies can also get other strengths and weaknesses, which in turn forces the player to defend differently for each enemy -

komatikThis game oozes calm and serenity which I like, so if combat is added make it an optional mode please.
I really like the fact that I can pick this up after work and see my beavers go at it without any stress of defense games. -

pedasjmano, this game does absolutly not need combat.

RyvreI agree with komatik, I much prefer the game not to have combat, attacks, or hunting, or any violence. There are so many games with violence to choose from and not many without.

FuryoftheStarsI'm on the fence on wanting combat in this game or not. I certainly enjoy that aspect, but as the game is right now, it doesn't seem well... for lack of a better word, "designed" for that.
It certainly would have to be an optional thing to turn on/off if implemented, and I wouldn't want it to feel like yet another thing that I have to heavily plan and ready for. Possibly something that can be engaged at leisure, or isn't a factor until you expand a certain distance out from the starting location? And I'm not for the idea of where the beavers don't/can't fight back. -

KuschelCatNooo, I agree with komatik. The game is so nice because it has no combat whatsoever.

ArkaladinWhile I enjoy many city building games with combat or defense elements, this doesn't seem to me to fit with the theme of this game.
The "enemy" to be overcome here is the post-apocalyptic environment with droughts and parched land, not enemy soldiers. I very much like the focus here on building something better for all beaverkind, not on fighting or warmongering. -

Harry MergedYou should have it so there are a barracks where you can make soldiers and have it so there are some soldiers from the other faction of beavers guarding the scrap metal buildings. The bigger the building the better the equipment needed for the soldiers as there will be more better equipped opponents there. You can start off with wood swords )or stone if you add it) then once you have captured your first bits of metal you can turn them into armour/weaponry. Also there should be small camps of opposing faction beavers around the map that you have to clear and if you don't then they will start raiding you and taking a bit of your resources maybe kill a few beavers and a building or two (this can be altered based on the difficulty). I think this would add a new level of complexity to the game for you to have to think about and make it more rounded

Alex M MergedI think it would be cool, and more realistic, if there were wild animals roaming the map for your beavers to deal with. Herbivores, like deer, elk, etc. could wander into town and try to eat your crops, pests like mice or rats could sneak into warehouses and steal your food, and predators could infiltrate the town to kill beavers.
To combat this, it would be cool to add a military/town watch to the game. Nothing to serious (wouldn't want to detract from the generally chill aesthetic), but maybe have the ability to build fencing to help keep animals out, and some kind of garrison to train guards. I don't think they would try to kill these animals, just drive them away, so they could be armed with sticks to smack/shoo away animals. Different animals could pose different threat levels; foxes aren't a threat to adults, but can kill children in a heartbeat. Wolves can kill unarmed adults, but a lone watchman can shoo it away. Bears are bad news (lol hit the character limit). -

LxL MergedThe drought intensified the later you play which is good. However, after spending around 24 hours in a map. No more dams or mega structures could be build, I don't know what else to do with gears and another tons of surplus resources. I wish there is another way to consume these resources such as trading or defense against raiding.

cookie MergedI would like to suggest war. after the 10th year a new settlement is spawned on the opposite side of the map and is already quite advanced, then they ask you to sign a document where if you agree to partner with them they will not kill you and you will not have to defend but they have to take half of your resources and remove your farmland (you can get it back), if you decline the document the game will give you 1 year to prepare and in that time you set up walls and a small army to defend, once you have defeated the enemy you take all their people and resources (land included). it should also be easier to get metal, like maybe a mine or something of the sorts.

Alice MergedI've seen quite a few suggestions for added survival mechanics like winter seasons or forest fires which would be fantastic, but I'd personally also like to see some form of active threat, perhaps an antagonistic faction of beavers or weasel bandits for example that would allow for defense oriented objectives.

AntonI don't think that there should be war in this game.
This game is about revivig the destroyed world. Not about war.
And i don't want to see cute beavers kill each other. The world has had enough of war by the time the story takes place. -

official dumbass (that's my discord) MergedI think it would be cool to have racoons that raid you and you must build and then employ beavers at a guardhouse to counter these raiders. eventually the raids will become larger in size and raid you more often. i don't plan to make the racoons kill any beavers but if they get past they will take as much loot as possible.

- Defense mode (towers, soldiers...)

Brad MergedI like how casual this game is however a tower defense mode could be entertaining. I think it would work best if you could add walls and archer towers, maybe bunkers. When a raid from another faction comes in your beavers either go to bunkers or to the archer towers. None of them die but you could lose some resources.
If trading ever becomes a thing currency could be the primary target, to further allow for less impact to resources used for droughts.
Trading + these raids would also promote more faction interaction, if more get added, and the possibility of some form of impactful diplomacy. -

JeffreyJames j halvorson Mergedrandom werewolves should appear from woods or mountains and kill beavers at night , attacking lodges or beavers out late on streets , build guard stations with armed beavers with spears, and they kill werewolves . werewolves should not be able to climb leavies or swim rivers so they act as a wall to keep them out . but guard stations only have so much reach and should be placed near bridges or sides of towns without water.

Xadhoom13I'd like to avoid other beaver enemies, but there could be less civilized rodents around like:
Rats, live in ruins and they get our at night to raid for food and/or building materials, so they will try to get your resources and crops and then flee, with as less combat as possible. Will defend their ruins (both types, underground and above surface) if you start scavenging them or are too near. Can be pacified by combat or by sending them food. If you send them enough food for enough time, they could begin trade scrap metal back;
Moles, live hidden underground, will get enraged if you flood their area and attack your dam (maybe even with fire?) before moving out if they are unsuccessful for too long (or if you kill too many of them), will eat your crops from underground (you'll see them wither) if you farm near their area;
Squirrels, nomad bands of barbarians, will roam the map, could attack you, better offer them food tribute, could attack your enemies if you offer enough, mercs; -
12 Feb, '23
Xadhoom13Also, i think we could easily have 3 tier of troops:
Spearman, require planks for their spears and shield, attack in melee, quite fast but only defense is the shield;
Bowman/Crossbowman, require planks and scrap metal, for their arrows and short swords, attack from range or weakly in melee, fast but with no defense;
StormBeaver, require treated planks and metal cubes, armed with a rifle with an axe/bayonet for ranged and melee combat, slow to fire but high damage at range, deadly in melee, quite slow but armored with a wooden armour (that still let them swim around, since they are beavers after all);
Soldiers should patrol automatically around the districts, and you should be able to take direct command of one or more of them and send them to attack specific enemies if needed

Jacob WiensFirst things first, I agree with everyone who says that combat should be an optional mode, if added at all. The core spirit of the game is playing against a harsh environment.
Secondly, I think that any kind of combat system should be tied in with that spirit. The enemies could be creatures trying to drink your water during a drought, or raid your crops to feed themselves. It definitely should not be random hostile creatures killing everything in sight. In other words, the core threat from enemies would be enhancing the core threat of the game as a whole. This would also allow for more dynamic enemy-based gameplay, since you could always hand over resources to make them go away, or even form friendships.
