Add a clear metric (like water/sec) so it's easier to weigh the risks of water dumps and irrigation
It's hard to do a cost benefit analysis for buildings that consume resources if those resources are vital to survival. It would be nice if there was a metric so I knew how many water pumps would it take to offset that water usage.

Björn Björkman BäckströmAgreed! Would also be nice for other resources like logs/potatoes/wheat/flour so you could plan out how much of each building you need to be able to provide. Or for buildings like farms, something like "Average number of tiles that can be harvested/planted per minute". Just to give an indication of how many farmers you need for a certain size of farm...

Peter DMy thumbrule is 50 carrots, 100 potatoes per farmhouse. (with awe buffs multiply those)
Seems like water dumps are superior to irrigation towers, but they're harder and more wood to setup. Dumps are fantastic if you have a pond or lake water hole already on the map.
Irrigation tower is quick and easy but eats more water. I've never found pumped water quantity to really be a problem, yet :P
