Each season has its own features and challenges.

MotokoMy suggestion would be to make all the seasons unique & distinct all featuring different challenges to overcome. Summer would be the current dry season, bringing all the associated water shortages with it. Winter would also bring risk of water shortages but instead in the form of rivers & lakes slowly freezing over, late game you could have water pumps that can pump out of frozen lakes but require power to operate unlike regular pumps. Winter freezing the water would also make the area unpassable. So paths layed on river beds would cease to work cutting off supply lines & district connections. Snow could also slowly form on the ground the longer the season continues potentially cutting off roads & builders or even a new job building could be used to shovel the snow in attempt to stop it.

MotokoFor ether spring or autumn you could make it a rainy season, all water sources would start producing double the amount of water, so if you are not careful you could suffer major flooding, you may need to dig rivers deeper & wider or risk overflow. It would also give more reasons for levee's by using them as sudo sea barriers to prevent your farm land from flooding. Each season could also have a colour sepia, changing the colour tone of the screen to fit the season much like Don't Starve does. You could also add visual effects like heat waves, rain & snow to add to the sense of dread or mystique that comes with each season. Faction specific buildings could also be added that allow the different beavers to deal with seasons in unique & fun ways.

palidine40I like the idea of adding seasons as a difficulty option before starting the map, maybe even letting players toggle them on/off during easier difficulties so they can try to get used to them.
Winter could have a heat mechanic that somewhat helps melt the ice along the coasts/riverbanks, and this is one example of seasonal conflict generating mechanics. Maybe leaf/clogs in the fall, reduction in crop output. Spring flooding and high crop output. -

GregersenpaiI love this idea, Prepping for winter is a big part of a beavers life. Larger and Deeper ponds are less likely to freeze over in winter giving beavers access to water to drink.

epinephrine MergedI would like to suggest adding new cycle threats such as extreme flooding and freezing periods, specific to individual maps. I think it would make for interesting dynamics such as planning around seasonal lakes/ponds or ice paths to quickly access raw material with no possible plant growth.

LillyYep, I definitely think flooding should be a mechanic to counter drought. Freezing also makes sense to me, water expanding when it freezes could be an interesting mechanic too.

Personally I'd like it if the cold season was more predictable (like winter), but the drought/flooding was random as this seems more fun from a gameplay perspective.
This sort of seasonality reminds me of don't starve with each season having a new mechanic to overcome. -

Groppie MergedI would like to see how the weather change and the seasons. Right now we have just one season. But what would happen if the river froze or like when you have different seasons that you need also to plant different food.

Jimmy RourkAdding seasons (maybe an on/off toggle so player can decide if they want the challenges that come with seasons. ) Winter brings difficulty with freezing shallow waterways and food issues. Spring is a supper boost in food production. Summer brings drought days at variable strengths. Autumn is a normalizing time but visually color changes in foliage and maybe nuts increasing because they are falling off trees.

GlennAn added thought to this topic--if there's snow/accumulation there's a ton of potential to use that alongside the water mechanics. For instance, in areas with heavy snowfall, when spring comes around the snowmelt makes wide areas of land fertile for a short time. Additionally, high amounts of snowmelt in certain terrain areas can cause high flood risk. I lived in an area where this was a problem during spring - temperature jumps mid-late winter led to runoff flooding our basement.

ouwg Mergedmake four seasons with different natural disaster for example
- Winter: avalanches from logged ares in higher terraces (to avoid don't log to much in the higher parts above your infrastructure.) heavy snow will decrease your beavers movement speed (to help your beavers movement speed optimize your paths
- Spring: floods fill lower terraces with a little water (leave some forested water edges to slow water flow.) frost can impede crop growth which may cause loss of crops (increase biodiversity to decrease temperature rise and fall.)
-Summer: droughts as is. heat dome will cause your beavers to get more thirsty (to avoid make more showers and/or more water storage.)
-Fall: heavy rains may cause floods/landslides. (see spring for how to deal with floods. see winter for
how. to deal with landslides/avalanches. -

WhiteRooI got some ideas that seem easier to implement
-Flood season: the entire map gets surrounded with (invisible) walls that block water flowing out. The wall raises one level per day until midseason where it starts to lower, causing water to pile up on the map for a short while, and when it pulls back, leaves puddles in every hole for a while.
-Scorch season: Water evaporation rate is doubled and water only makes farmable one or two blocks from itself instead of the current 10(?). May or may not also a drought.
-Frost seson: Water becomes solid blocks and slopes and dirt blocks are unfarmable even if it is next to water. Relevant buildings stop working, but while it lasts, paths can be built on top of water allowing more map access.(and the chance to strand beavers somewhere far) -

Victor Mergedit would be very cool if we had seasons like winter, sommer, spring and autumn. So that maybe after every dry the season changes. And every seasonlooks cool and has special features like in spring plants grow faster or in winter the beavers have to warm themselves every 5 hours and have to wear coats an so.

nope Mergedwheater update whit seasons like summer spring fall and winter in the winter you need a special ice drill to get water wheater like rain that evrywhere becomes green or thunder and maybe fire

Elmonto MergedDifferent seasons resulting in different challenges.
Summer - as currently is in game. no water during the drought season. trees and food grows quickly
Autumn - trees don't grow/grow slower, chestnuts, food grows quickly. normal water conditions
Winter - water frozen over does not evaporate, evergreen trees only grow, food doesn't grow unless assisted by new buildings.
Spring - excess water which results in mass flooding. players need to design dam systems for greater discharge of water. otherwise buildings flooded. trees and food grows quickly -

jimmy MergedWould love to see Seasons implemented in the game. Would also give it a beautiful aesthetic look to the game!
Spring - lots of rain! great for water collecting but also causes uncontrollable rise in water! Hope you have a way to deal with runaway water and spillways. You will see little flowers bloom around your map! Have showers show a beautiful rain dropping on your beavers :)
Summer - Hot steamy summers will add more evaporation to the water. Keep your beavers wet! its a hot one this year!
Fall - temperatures cool for a beautiful autumn landscape. trees change colors and leaves fall off. The fall harvest brings a bountiful crop! better start gathering and storing for the winter!
Winter - beautiful snowfall comes down on beavers! Large water mass (lakes) can freeze requiring to have flowing water to be able to collect drinking water. Crops grow very poorly. -

Andrew BLove seasons as an idea, largely because it could impact stuff on land, not just water - e.g. beavers need fuel to to heat homes, and certain crops only grow in the right seasons. Lots of options for new challenging gameplay.

tesla Mergedit will have more fun about sunshine duration will change by time, a season independent of drought. we can set plant grow much fast but it stop grow at night. so it need more storage to keep crops in summer, and expend in winter. it make storage more useful

Adrian BA 30 day period would be nice for starters.
Spring, Summer, Autumn, Winter each lasting 30 days with 0-2 cycles
The settings that we have now would be Spring.
Same weather, same tides and no seasonal punishments.
Summer could be with no droughts and 1 badwater.
To offset this a higher evaporation is needed.
The sun burns hotter, and there are more sun hours per day.
Stored water also slowly evaporates and this can be stopped by lids you can place on top of the tanks.
To avoid making it easy the lids should have a SP cost of around 250 for a small tank, 500 for a medium and 750 for a large tank.
Autumn has no droughts but 2 badwater.
Rain and storms could cause flooding of rivers and (artificial) lakes.
High winds could uproot trees.
strength 0 to 50%, no trees are uprooted.
strength 50-75%, 1% of trees are uprooted.
75% to 90%, 5% are uprooted.
above 90%, 10% is uprooted. -

Adrian BThis would have an inpact on your wood supply.
The winds are harder then during the other 3 seasons.
A wind of 100% could also damage your buildings,
but we would have a new beaver building: the handy beaver.
they repair building using the same materials as the orginal build,
but this gets a time penalty.
Autumn is also the time to plant the winter crops: kale, winter cereal which would be used in the gristmill and bakery, spinach and Cauliflower.
the food we have now won't grow anymore untill spring,
so either you store a lot (and hope the warehouses won't be damaged by storms) or plant the winter crops.
You can plant them using the regular farms, which could flood, freeze or snowed under. Best is to use glasshouses.
The glassblower makes glass from dirt, heat and sodium which the beavers need to get from the ashes of plants.
A glasshouse will not be able to cover the size of a farm.
I would say maybe 10 glasshouse equal 1 farm? -
24 Dec, '23
Adrian BThe glass could break though during an autumn store, destroying the crops inside and needs to be fixed by the handybeaver.
Winter has no droughts or bad water, so make sure you have badwater/extract.
It has snow and freezing temps.
The water can freeze.
Fast moving water, above a certain flow rate, doesn't freeze.
But slower moving water freezes depending on the flow rate.
Still standing water freezes fast.
A new building, 3 workers, collects the ice from the tanks, brings it to a building
where wood is used to melt it. This takes time wich could cause thirsty beavers.
Beavers could go in fast moving water, but with a higher risk of getting sick.
to keep their furs wet they could take a hot shower.
I have the regular showers but never seen a beaver use it.
Lets replace it for a hot water shower. They need wood to heat up water and this would be
the only way to wet there fur without getting sick.
A hot tub would be cool as well for that reason. -
24 Dec, '23
Adrian BEvery building needs logs to keep the beavers warm.
I'm not sure what a good number would be since trees don't grow during winter.
Maybe 4 logs per building per day?
Thats 120 logs per building to get through the winter.
That would impact your log storage but would keep it interesting. -

Chelsea MergedSpring being the best time to plant stuff. Risk of floods from rain, storms, high winds
Summer having most yields and hot days/more droughts. Requires beavers to take breaks or get into the shade.
Fall having pretty colors
Winter having slow moving water freeze over. Snow can be melted for water. A greenhouse option to keep harvesting crops
Fish could destroy underwater crops if not gated off. Worst during mating season. (Beavers don't eat fish) -

Chazz PlayYes, cycle equal season:
Cycle 1 = Summer, ends with drought crisis
Cycle 2 = Autumn, ends with a badtide (Halloween spirits taking their revenge.)
Cycle 3 = Winter, ends with a deep freeze
Cycle 4 = Spring, ends with a flood
Randomize which season you get on hard difficulty. -

AleBale1 MergedIf this dosn't seem like a good idea maybe add it as an difficulty.
I suggest putting a spring and winter besides the original summer and autumn. It would be better if, for example in the winter the beavers without a house have a very high chance oh dying. Also because the autumn and winter don't have a food resource if you don't plan to build a dam you could maybe add a flower that grows in the winter without water (Make the time till the autumn and winter a bit longer so players have time to prepare well)
For the last maybe you could add another bever type.
Maybe it seems a bit excaterated but idk you decide.
Hope I helped -
