Sunflower Seeds/Birch trees don't seem worthwhile
Sunflowers take longer to grow than carrots, produce less food, and don't give all that good of a bonus- I usually don't find the +5% work speed worth the amount of land/number of farmers it takes to grow enough of them to get that bonus for most of your beavers.
Likewise with birch, they take 3/4 as long to grow as pine trees and give you half as much wood. It's hard to think of a situation where that's a useful tradeoff, and unlike something like chestnut trees there's no benefit to having adult birch trees either.

GakeHaving a difference between Hardwood and Softwood is desperately needed in this game. There's zero need to grow any tree but Maple for it's Log efficiency right now. Certain constructions probably shouldn't care whether it's Soft/Hardwood and need any kind of Log regardless of type.
Softwoods
Furniture, instruments, ornate carvings, etc. Terrible for construction so used very rarely.
-Birch: most efficient tree for Softwood harvesting. Should be 4 Softwood Logs for 15 days.
-Chestnut: inefficient for Softwood harvesting. Should be 6 Softwood Logs for 26 days.
Hardwoods: Structures, cogs, etc. Most current log usage right now.
-Pine: fast growing option, but extremely flammable (balancing). 4 Hardwood Logs for 16 days.
-Maple: long-term, bigger reward. 8 Hardwood Logs for 30 days.
-Oak*: tree I want added, 2x2 tree. Very long-term, biggest reward. 16 Hardwood, 45 days. -

HawkeightI guess you have a point about the sunflowers but I thought the birch trees were the fastest growing trees. I'm going off the top of my head here so I may be wrong but I think the tree growth and wood production were something like;
1) birch = 1 wood + N/A
2) pine = 2 wood + resin
3) chestnut = 4 wood + chestnuts
4) maple = 3 wood + sap
so birch is faster growing and the only tree that has no other function.
as for the sunflowers, maybe beavers could choose to either eat them as is or roast them for double the bonus, maybe add them to a new bread recipe -

AlainI'd love an option to turn sunflower seed into sunflower oil and then do something else with it (for example, have a "Maintenance Post" that takes oil and applies it to working buildings, increasing temporarily their efficiency.

Asheredsunflowers is the only food that gives kits a growth speed increase, like it was meant mostly for kits

RayneSunflower seeds are not suitable as a staple food, but are excellent as a snack. In fact, beavers do not consume as much of them and do not need as much field area, since only two sunflower seeds meet all their nutritional needs.
So it is a lucrative investment if there is enough other food available. -

MithmortSunflower seeds are also used for golem catalyst, so if one invests in golems and wants to give them catalyst, then sunflowers are necessary.

Melanie HoyleI find I can't keep sunflower seeds around though. I have over 14k carrots but 0 sunflower seeds because my beavers won't stop eating the seeds!

HawkeightAlso, Sunflowers produce heaps of seeds on each flower so unless it's referring to how many mouthfuls each plant produces I feel sunflowers should have a dozen seeds each.
it would be great if we could have things like sunflower bread or roasted sunflowers or other things like that. having more recipes could balance out the extra seeds ratio.
