Window size changes randomly when I load a previous save.

MacBook Pro M2. Connected to Samsung monitor occasionally. I will set the windowed size, play for a while, and decide to go back to a previous save. The next session comes up so that it's about 4 to 6 times larger than it was before. I have to quit out of the game and try things like rebooting the computer, disconnecting the monitor, etc. and still wind up hoping I can get it small enough so that it will fit on my display. I can't do it full screen because I won't have the option of closing the window.
1. Why is the display changing its size? This should be a set it and forget it setting, not something to reset each time the game changes state.
2. Why can't I grab a corner of a window and snap it back to size.
