As a new player in the tutorial, I need more guidance on where to place buildings
I'm new, I just tried my first game, and I lost time and then got stuck because I had trouble placing buildings well.
- The very first thing the tutorial does is tell you to place a lumberjack flag. The arrow needs to point to a free space to build a path to it, which is obvious in a minute, but at this point you haven't built a path yet. I built the arrow pointing into a tree (reasonable, right?) and then couldn't connect it. It took me a few minutes to figure it out.
- After 45 minutes, I still haven't figured out what the range of lumberjack flags is. How close to the trees do you need to build them?
- On Meander, my first water mill ended up needing a high power shaft, which I couldn't build yet. In sorting all this out, I ran out of wood and abandoned the city (I'll try again). I needed to understand how water mills connect to a power shaft before I built it in a spot I couldn't connect to, or I needed a suggestion of a good spot to build it.

Gin Fuyou AdminGenerally games encourage trial and error approach, and as I understand dev intend to keep it that way.
That said improvement of tutorial is planned (and I pestered devs many times about clearing up how arrow and water pump needs to be placed.)
Meander is not an easiest map in the game, so I wouldn't recommend learning basics on it. At start you can place wheel pretty much only on the other side of the bend -

Lazarus56Every building that's highlighted in blue right before you place it, shares power.
Example : Placing a lumbermill directly next to another one, will share that power source. A lot of mixture of buildings can do so and it doesn't have to be the exact same building. In your screenshot, you could back up your lumbermill all the way to your high power shaft and still get power from your power wheel as well, saving some logs.
If you want a more beginner friendly experience, choose customized (difficulty) and disable badtides. Hope this helps :) -

DarkICE09When panning to place a lumber flag, gather flag, or metal flag the cyan border is the range it can collect resources from.
