Something's wrong: the water isn't flowing fast enough through the narrow sections.
I’m doing everything I can to channel the water onto my turbines, but instead of increasing the flow and speed at that point, the water stagnates and overflows upstream because of an imaginary limit that’s completely unrealistic.
So I’m frustrated (even though I love the game – I’ve clocked up 261 hours), because even with all the sluice gates open, your village will remain flooded because the game has decided that no more flow will pass through a single block and that the water won’t speed up.
I used to use the ‘FreeFlow’ mod, which fixed this underlying issue and made the experience truly brilliant by creating real waves and allowing for the creation of proper torrents; but unfortunately it’s been obsolete since 1.0 and no one seems willing to update it.
I find that this is seriously spoiling my gaming experience; it’s a shame, as I’d really enjoyed version 1.0 up until now.

Gin Fuyou AdminLimit is not imaginary and not really that far unrealistic. Yes it exists mainly as tradeoff to simplify water simulation, but all it means you need to use wider channel and that's all there is to it.
Maybe one day water physics will be updated to be a more realistic.... -

AymericBut, as you can see in the screenshots above, the problem isn't the width of the channel, since the water level is extremely low at the outlet. The problem is that the water doesn't seem able to accelerate and pick up speed due to the pressure. I have to admit, that's really troubling!

AymericBut wait! Why is my suggestion marked as “done”?! Nothing has been done at all! That's dishonest.
And I never said it was a bug... -

Gin Fuyou AdminThe title clearly says "Something is wrong"...
And I don't see anythings really wrong here. I agree with you that water simulation is far from perfect, but it's not completely unrealistic either.
You have a narrow channel that can't handle strong flow so it overflows upstream, very naturally so. Water flow will accelerate but to a limit. If you have measurement that show limit is not correct - share them and we will reconsider this.
For now that's not a bug, so it's done, nothing to fix here. -

ErwanI agree:
That’s exactly the problem—that ‘limit’.
The water in the game seems to refuse to speed up; it’s obvious that it flows at a constant speed.
Conclusion: you can spin 10 turbines in a row, and the water never loses any of its force. However, you cannot make a single turbine spin any faster, as the water is unable to accelerate beyond an arbitrary limit.
This isn’t a bug; it’s a problem with the game’s design and the mechanics of the water (which is, after all, the basis of the game!).
If our (real-world) water behaved like this, hydroelectric dams wouldn’t exist. -

Gin Fuyou AdminAgain, that's not correct.
Water speeds up. To a limit. Same in real life just more complex.
If it was not so in real, floods wouldn't happen, right?
Limit is there intentionally and it helps game water system to behave adequately.
You can post a suggestion to raise or remove the limit, if no open exists. As I said it water physics might be revised one day, I can't tell, it's just a major change that devs would be reluctant to make.
But I'm not approving topic based on false claims like that water speed is constant, which the most simple tests immediately dispel.
On other hand if you have case where water doesn't behave correctly under 3cm/s per tile please post screenshots with UI and measuring structures so we can check if it's possibly a bug.
