Add a powered Lift or Elevator
Adding in some form of powered lift to allow beavers to travel multiple levels vertically outside of ramps/stairs. Maybe some form of powered X lift where the power shafts cause the X arms to raise or lower, or a pully system with a rope around the power shafts, etc.

BOMBO MergedI wanted to build a skyscraper but it seems very hard since you cant put anything on above stairs, but an elevator that could just go straight up and stop where the beaver lives would be amazing, maybe it would cost gears and maybe rope (if you add that) and maybe it would take power from f.ex a water wheel. though it would be fine if you didn't add it too, because I can still make giant blobs of houses

zacherlActually it is possible to build a level two platform on top of stairs, so an infinite circular staircase on an 2*3 (or 3*3) rectangle seems to be possible.

beaverbroHm you could have two types of elevators, a compact one (e.g. 1x1) for beavers and a larger one (2x2 or 3x3) for transporting materials. Would be very handy for tall buildings

Paul MergedHi,
Love the game so far!
I think a building like elevators to overcome high cliffs without having to build several stairs and platforms to form a ramp.
It would need logs, planks and gears and maybe the iron teeth could have a heavy duty elevator with more carrying capacity. The height the elevator can handel could be similarily handeled to the length in hanging bridges starting with at least two, since for one a stair is simply easier. -

warbrand2 MergedA suggestion for tall buildings and dams
2
Lifts
these are manually powered platforms in which a beaver will work to raise and lower others to floors above and bellow. If built above water will not lower into said water.
elevators
these are powered versions of the lift that require a gears instead of just wood and planks. Move automatically good for really tall construction.
on both you make the lift/elevator at the bottom then the shaft which can go as high or as low as needed. with out a shaft the lift only has 2 floors and the elevator 3, but with shafts crafted above them they increase their height.
lift shaft
costing lumber and planks these are used to increase the height of lifts and elevators.
Design element of all elevators use gears to go up and down while lifts use a poll in the middle which the working beaver winds the lift around (is a gear lift that allows beavers to stand on it, worker and person use it work together to twist the lift. -

EdesRozsaa stackable structure that the more you add, the higher it can go, but also needs more power
-

RandomthoughtfulI feel that this idea is an improvement on the "1x1 stairs" idea. I think it makes thematic and mechanical sense with the rest of the game. Obviously, it should come with some restrictions. Expensive construction cost and/or a delay in the actual transport. Gears, planks, & metal--could all go into it.

HappyBeaverI totally need some kind of elevator. It could work with a simple pulley-mechanism:
For the ropes needed: maybe a new sort of trees could be used to harvest vines!
The rest could be made of planks and (refined -> new building) metal.
Could be operated by power devices oder by manually (or both - with standard manually and a tech upgrade for water/wind-powered versions). -

JP MergedPlz add Elevator Plz
1
Of course, I'm not saying that stairs are bad because of their beauty,
The higher i stack it, the longer the movement line becomes.
This is why I suggest adding an elevator.
Users of this game will want to build efficient skyscrapers.
However, I suggest that some restrictions may be required due to op performance.
Using power,
Height Variation 1, 2, 3 or else, (can be stack them up)
But it requires high scientific power to lift a ban.
Anyway your games snapping is soooooo cooooool
So Funny game!! thanks! -

darkAcoI would like an elevator.
But maybe more simple to implement, I would like a "up+down" staircase aswell.
Or a "platform staircase" (so you can stack staircases upon each other). -

pehiThe figure with a paternoster lift is very nice :-). We have one at the University and it is fun to ride :-D, it would fit very well to the game, if it consume power to operate and is a quite huge :-)

Eccentric Warmonger MergedIt would be nice if both factions could build elevators to raise/lower beavers. This would allow for more utilization of vertical space instead of using lots of stairs to get places. Elevators could require new items, such as: ropes and pulleys alongside existing items such as: planks and logs. To power the elevator, you could use water. For example, a full bucket of water raises the elevator and emptying the bucket lowers the elevator.

DraythixThis talk about elevators has reminded me about the various transport options that the game "Oxygen Not Included" has for moving its characters around. Here's a few ideas for movement that are inspired by that game:
-Maybe the less technologically inclined factions could have a 'fire pole' for quick descents as an alternate option instead of an elevator?
-Beavers like water, so maybe there could be 'transport tubes' filled with water that the beavers could jump in for quick travel from place to place. -

Rompin Donkey MergedApologies if already suggested.
Rope lifts (elevators) made from wood/planks, gears and I guess a new material to be made (rope) which could also lead to a new harvesting material (hemp or something like that?) I guess that means we would also need a building to process material into rope lol.
I know stairs and platforms do the job but I do hate seeing all of those huge structures just to build a staircase up some huge cliff lol.
Those beavers are pretty resourceful and could surely come up with this tech lol? -

VasYou don't need advanced elevators like this for an elevator to exist by the way. Simple elevators for early game could also be made. These are rope elevators, where the beaver riding it, pulls his own rope to get up, unless you employ a beaver to stay at the elevator to pull it for them improving the speed of it by 25%. This is the type of elevator that would take up one square for the rider, and one square up top for entering/exiting, like bridges.
For the powered ones, I do like this idea, but I suspect it would be a fairly late game thing considering its size, it looks to be something that would only ever get used on a mountain map and would be extremely dangerous due to it constantly moving and beavers would need to get on and off of a moving platform. Wouldn't be very efficient to stop and go constantly. Physics would simply say no, considering it needs time to pick up in speed and then slow down each time. I'd say the single person elevator rope thing is most probable here. -

stwfIf they can figure out the gravity battery they can figure out an elevator.
Maybe limit its capacity to the number of beavers assigned to it? they can ride it down in order to lift things and ride it back up to lower things slowly? I would also think they could figure out the gearing to run this off of a water wheel power train etc. -

Gin Fuyou AdminSteven Fuchs, not sure how it's related to batteries, coding beaver movement with elevator would be considerably more complex.

ChamEven a ladder will be cool 1 case three directions possible and stackable.

BlackNyasherAdd early game Ladder and late game Elevator. Ladder allows beavers to climb vertically (like in the modification, but) while they cannot use it while hauling things, so it only usable to access houses and buildings that doesn't requires or produces resources. Elevator allows beavers to move vertically even while carrying stuff. Elevator is supposed to use power - but it will be too tricky to keep it powered 24/7 while shortages will cause all the pathfinding and district's reachness to go mad every time lift stops, so it somehow uses beaver's own force to make it lift him up.
P.S.- maybe elevator could be powered to be twice as fast comparing to working on beaver force. -
14 Sep, '22
BlackNyasherAlso in addition to concept on the pinned picture: lift could have a ladder in the middle, so when there is no power to operate lift - lift stops and beavers will be using ladder instead, getting up and down slower but still having access to the top of the lift and any other floor (so it will help to avoid path being blocked every time lift stops, and to avoid movement speed recalculations - beavers will always consider lift powered when calculating their path or will simply ignore their possible movement speed so they will use lift/ladder as long as it will be shorter way for them even while it takes more time than other road).
P.S.- so with the lift like this there could be regular ladders without lifts as well as early game option -

Jacob Wolf MergedI played map with high elevation and I must build weird stairs and supports. Maybe some ELEVATORS would be great and SUPPORTS like bridges but only for buildings. But fluid gate was best idea. Thank you for that. And maybe Flag Buildings could be solid and RECYCLING Building to save resources. Sorry for bothering and thanks for great game.
