Food and water rationing, food limit, consumption order and food management.
I love the game and have no complaints otherwise! But could we get an option to adjust how much food they can ration out per colony?
MOD: This thread has been merged from nay other that talk about all sorts of food rationing, adjusting the order beavers eat food, setting a limit on how much food or what kind of food can be consumed and so on.
This thread is only for the management and gameplay side, not new buildings or new food types.
QUICK SUMMARY:
- Setting time limits for WHEN beavers eat
- Setting which foods beavers CAN and CAN NOT eat
- Limiting HOW MUCH food beavers can eat
- Temporary disabling eating and drinking (till they start starving or arbitrary)
- Removing food items from consumption (like setting Blueberries to be locked for breeding pods only).

Perrybirb MergedAkin to Stronghold, I would appreciate being able to set how much food the beavers are allowed to eat per day. Lower than full rations would result in productivity and happiness penalties, while bigger than full rations would do the opposite. If it can be done within the game's balancing, I would love a bit more control over food consumption during a game, not just before.

Kelsey MergedHey so i have a few thoughts, during droughts you should be able to ration the food for your beavers, also rations during non-drought time would be cool as well because DANG do these beavers EAT! I also would like to be able to place beavers in jobs that I need to be filled to get my colony to thrive further.

Florian MergedAllow the management of the food. Like when you play iron tooth and don't want that the blueberries are used for food and not for breeding. deny access to blueberries as a food source.

Whit MergedEspecially when I first started playing the game, I didn't have a great feel for how much water and food any given beaver would consume so I'd bump right up against the limit and my last beaver would die of thirst while the water worked its way back down the canal.
When I'm just waiting like that (starting town, nothing much else to do while I wait for the drought to end), I'd like to see a way to toggle on rationing out remaining food and drink. Perhaps the negative effect caused by enabling this is that your beavers end work earlier in the day and it stops child production until discontinued, but in exchange, they consume half the resources they normally would. -

Steven Lin MergedWhat is the priority of food consumption? I always got one kind of food run out first, while the other two got thousands of storage. Hope the food will be consumed based on Inventory quantity after the nutrition needs are met.

Johannes MergedAfter setting the food consumption rate to 180%, I notice all my beavers are starving well before the end of their (16h) workday. The "capacity" of food for each beaver seems not to be scaled, only their food consumption, so they need to eat more frequently. This may make sense, but was unexpected to me.
I see the following possibilities:
(1) Increase the size of a beaver's stomach - they evolved to only eat once a day, which holds true even if they need more food at this one meal. I would have expected this behaviour.
(2) Have a beaver eat before going to work. It seems they only eat after work / before sleep, when not starving. This seems to be the most natural way to handle it and should solve or at least mitigate the issue in my case, but would still result in the same issue if the food consumption was set even higher.
(3) Leave it as it is. In my opinion, this makes the game quite a bit harder once beavers need to leave work in order to eat, since this often takes a lot of t -

palidine40 MergedPlease make the beavers eat the most abundant food source first, then rotate to something they haven't had if they're nearly full in that food stat bonus. I didnt see this suggestion anywhere yet, but I do notice its hard to keep all the beavers in contact with nice foods while also keeping the highly stocked foods to be eaten.
Maybe add a glutinous bonus to chowing down the most common that slows other foods down a tiny bit if they eat the more common food. A good way to present that option, may be to allow a mixed food source meal with multiple parts. Something like a soup kitchen or cafeteria style, where many foods are brought together to make a soup, hot-dish, mince pie, etc. This would add an industry, help spread the bonuses out for the less common food, and help kill the over stock of the most common foods, maybe through utilizing the overstocked food as the "crust" or "base" of the foods. -

Peter Knutsen MergedIt seems to me that the beavers already eat based on the Need that is lowest, i.e. if they're 1/5 on Carrots, 1/2 on Bread and 1/2 on Grilled Potatoes, then they'll prefer to eat a Carrot. That part works fine already, as far as I can see.
I do like the idea of more centralized "food serving places". That could also add another mid-tier or high-tier Need to the game, Fine Dining, or Restaurant Experience, or whatever the devs end up calling it. Practical for the players, and making the beavers feel classy. -

palidine40 MergedHey Peter,
I'm sure they eat by self need, but i was hoping for the option to push them to eat for the need of the colony. Spread out their tastes when low on one of the foods available.
Also, yeah, mid/late game idea of food prep. Could be as simple as a corner burger shack with bar stools. -

Ejr MergedWhen they go to drink or eat, the completely their bar . I think that it would be nice to be able to , perhaps, ban all water/food consumption for x amount of time.

Jcheung Admin Merged1) raw potato can not be consumed.
2) berries will not be consumed if there is sufficient other food types available. berries are only eaten as a last resort.
this suggestion might make sense for, say, sunflowers and maple syrup, but not berries and potatoes. -

AcidAce Mergedbut that's not the case, just fill your storage with grilled potato and then leave berries somewhere closer to as compared to grilled potatos. they will eat berries instead of grilled food. I have tested in my playthrough. Can you check it again or should I send you my save file.

Rye MergedBear with me on this one, here. So, in settlements where food is becoming a problem, for either faction, I've run into stopgap issues where farmers have slowed their production due to hunger, when they have direct access to food. Now, I know in the Folktails it says 'no eating policy', but at the same time, if my farmers would eat from what they're harvesting, it would help with the production difficulties of a settlement that is rapidly having food difficulties. I'm not sure if it's a 'eating priority' or 'resource access' thing, but if the farmers /could/ eat from their stock, I feel as though that would prevent the creeping difficulties of production in hard times.
