Procedural Map Generation - random map seeds
I think the title says it all. Procedural Map Generation. I know this is significantly easier said than done. Playing on the same maps every time can get old.

Daniel MergedI am not suggesting each new game has a randomly generated map. In the editor, It would be nice if there was an option to randomize the topography a little before adding in the details myself once I've been inspired.

El_Presidente MergedHaving a random map generator, kinda like in banished (if I'm correct you start at a random map) so you can get more dynamic maps and so on. It could be cool and you wouldn't have to select just one map.
Also >256 tiles maps are kinda lame IMO. -

MaxWont random maps make the map editor kind of pointless? I think as soon as the community can share maps through the workshop we'll have more maps than we know what to do with. While it certainly wouldn't be a bad feature, I think it would be redundant and could possibly discourage community interaction.

carpiiI'd definitely like to see Procedural maps. If you're spending 20+ hours on a map you want it to be interesting and not the same few maps you've already played half a dozen times before.
I think for most games in this genre, procedural maps are very much expected in 2021 -

Kenneth FerlandIt's a must for long term replayability, but I can understand it being low priority now, especially when the game is in flux and we might have terraforming added which will likely alter map structure in code.

Javier MergedI would like to add the difficulty of being able to create random maps and to be able to define myself with parameters the size of the map, height of the mountains, number of water ponds... etc in order not to define an initial strategy when restarting a game, this adds an extra difficulty to the game experience.

Dwan MergedI personally would love if your game had Procedurally Generated Maps. Rather than a set few to choose from. This would be amazing. Or even a randomize auto-fill sort of option in the map creator tool area.
Swimming - it seems odd as Beavers we cannot swim. Just my point of view.

savanikI'm working with a python script that can generate the base terrain heightfields based on Perlin noise, but there's a lot of stuff internal to the game that I don't have good access to for scripting - GUIDs for things like water sources, trees, etc., being a big one.

Ken LIdeally if it were possible to have procedurally-generated maps, the seed for each random map could be shown so that seeds could be shared with other players (see Kingdoms and Castles for an example of this).

Eccentric Warmonger MergedIt's great to play a map once, but it would be really cool if that same map (plains for example) looked different each time I started a new game. I'm thinking copy Minecraft's world generator system. I know I can create my own map, but that takes time. If I want to jump into a game, it would be cool if the level looked different.

FluddyI think both random maps and map generator would be cool. You could make a special map and share/replay it or you can just pick a random map.

Stanislav TraykovThis was kinda "game-breaking" for me as a newbie trying the game. Followed tutorial but didn't continue that game as I didn't like some placements I made while getting the hang of it. Started a fresh game hoping to experience the game in full, but just couldn't continue on the same map.
I realize that you can download maps & what not, but I am just not invested in the game yet, I have no desire to browse & download maps without knowing anything about how terrain works. I think a map generator is badly needed, even if it's a bad one at first. -

Claireyinoz MergedI think it would be great to have maps randomly generate based on the type you choose e.g. plains, waterfall etc. Therefore you play with similar parameters based on plains type for example but without it being exactly the same map each time.

MarbausI have to fully agree for this game to be something I would replay with creative intent and expression. If the map is always the same, then my motive to play becomes 'different'.
The difference is that I would see this as more of a 'puzzle/efficiency' game rather than a city building game. I would aim to find the most efficient way to play a map rather than expect to 'adapt and overcome' as a strong beaver based culture. Random maps, looping the x,y.z of map creation can allow for an interesting challenge that a developer, or group of developers may not consider, by letting the program do the work for them in this way. If a person doesn't like how a map looks, they can always roll up a new one.
This can be in conjunction with the created maps that are developed, as to not devalue the process of specific challenges that are also important.
This, with the above suggestion of 'weather - rain/flood/winter seasons', would elevate this game with the least amount of time on development.
