Vertical farming (Rooftop planting)
Would love some possibilities for vertical farming so we can build even more vertically!
A simple implementation would be a planting box to grow carrots/potatoes on a rooftop, with water being periodically supplied by beavers. Maybe more advanced connected hydroponics stuff (connected to pipes/water systems from other ideas on here).

MinkuSama MergedIt'd be nice if you could make excess land/platforms be able to be farmed on, via a new block, the "Mobile Farm Block 2000" (patent pending), it would function virtually the same as farm land, but you can place it on platforms, roofs, and levees.

Zam! MergedGardening pots. Sure, why not - maybe they could add some limited decor at the cost of lower yield? :)

moisesI think it would also make sense to have in-water vertical farming, hyper space-efficient crops would be a great incentive to create artificial lakes.

FrithgarOne of the big suggestions I see all over is aquaducts and pipes, this suggestion would tie in really well with that

StroamWould be neat. Would require water hauling. It changes the playstyle so much, I'd like to see it faction-specific. Maybe one that doesn't have farmhouses.

Vicky LangstrumpfA vertical green wall for lettuce or strawberries. Would look nice too!

IcicleFerretI agree! A hydroponics farm that takes scrap metal and maybe planks to build, employs 1-2 beavers, and requires water as a material, would be perfect for the Iron Teeth faction. They're supposed to be masters of metal and disregard the environment. It seems kind of counter to their nature to employ farmers and berry gatherers. Maybe the hydroponics farm can produce berries, so the Iron Teeth can finally bulldoze those pesky wild berry fields getting in the way of their industry.

BriantinRooftop gardens, hydroponics farms, etc. all seem like great ideas. I feel like new ways to both save space and do something productive are great, both IRL and in the game's modular sense.

RakazielIMO vertical farming would work best as an Iron Tooth only building - it fits with their greater focus on verticality and artifical solutions. Imagine a 3x3 stackable unit (like the Industrial Wood Storage), that is supplied with water (like the Breeding Tanks) and then either produces Berries, Carrots, Potatoes or Wheat (not sure on the last one) - they can be switched at any time but you lose all growth progress when doing so.
I would price it at 600 Research and similar Planks and Gears cost as the Big Water Tank -

FRCTNLSSI think this would be better suited to a new race of beavers instead of adding onto Iron Tooth. Iron Tooth is industrial not agricultural. Plus having more races with distinct strategies would be fun.

Neffster Mergedi would like the ability to do roof top farming. it would add a great nature aesthetic. I imigine it would require a beaver to do constant watering

Justin MergedFirst of all the game is amazing. Some optimization is needed to reduce frame rates, but I know it's still early access.
A suggestion would be to add a block that allows you to plot farm items on structures. Could even have it be a later game option after you start to mine. The mine could produce the scrap metal and dirt, dirt would be a component of 'Garden Block' It would be really cool to like create the hanging gardens.
Also it would be need to allow for Dams and Levees to be built upon the steal structure, or even allow the steel structure to be built on its on its support tile so you can create high rise structures. -

Mark TaylorI thought of something very similar - one-square planters that can be placed anywhere solid. I picture them looking like a levee piece filled with dirt, so you have to 'farm' them on the level above where you place them.

magermhNow this is interesting. A complete tech savvy. Your able to do vertical farming for mushrooms. That if I was Iron Teeth mushroom mash everything together with water to make food and water much.

Ben MergedIn the interest of land management, squares of farmable soil are a serious issue. With the new dirt update (which is awesome) it would be cool to have a rooftop gardens, a greenhouse lean-to, or raised beds that are farmable with a small bonus. My thought would be a “half cube” of soil. There could even be a new job of florist that grows colorful strips of flowers that specifically benefit from this set-up. It could also be aesthetic bonus, something like that.
Mostly, I would like to see more options for decorating the tops of buildings. It could add a cavelike, in-ground home feature to the game that makes more of the map usable. -

Jaco3011Hydroponic gardens were added, but only new, unique crops can be farmed in these.
Maybe adding:
a) rooftop garden
and/or
b) the ability to plant regular crops in hydroponic garden and/or rooftop garden
would be the thing
