Forester or stairs need to not require planks
Forester or stairs need to not require planks, if you run outa trees without a mill your only option is to AFK until more trees grow.

Zam!Yes, that is the case, but part of the game is actual resource management, so if you manage your resources poorly, you will run out of trees before you get these two. If you actually pay attention, then all official maps are blanaced in a way that allows you to easily build both forester and stairs without any issues.

Doun92The ressource management is a big plus, for sure, but you need a fem tries to properly understand how to solve this wood issue which will affraid new players.
I would recommend a first stage of tree planting, why not a fourth tree which is very weak and give a few wood for some time investment.
Also to have two levels of forester.
Just guessing... -

M MergedThe verticality is one of the only USPs of this builder game other than aesthetic, why lock it? Seems like a silly thing to do.

Max MergedWith the way the game is currently, I would highly recommend removing the 'planks' requirement to construct a Forester. The entirety of the current gameplay loop requires Wood as *the* primary resource for expansion of you beaver city, yet it is FAR too easy for a new/inexperienced player to straight lose the game within the first 1-2 drought cycles due to completely exhausting their starting wood resource.
In order for a player to maintain even the most limited sustainability in the early game they must: construct wood cutters -> construct science lab -> construct a power source (most often the water wheel, which takes some 50 logs) -> construct sawmill -> research forester -> create enough planks + logs to construct forester; all without exhausting your starting trees.
If the idea is to gate ultimate sustainability off one single area of land to a mid-later stage of the game, I would instead recommend making Birch the only tree available to plant without research. -

KnightForlorn MergedAnd it's double locked. It's locked behind the science points cost AND behind planks (which are just a 1:1 with logs so makes it cost extra time, space, and 1-2 beavers). Either they need to remove/lower science point cost or remove plank cost. I think the science point option best. Costing something like 10 would be much more reasonable and could tie into the updated tutorial of "Here's how you unlock something. Here's how you start a production chain."

Gin Fuyou AdminGame is already too easy, just let new players fail to learn resource management. Tutorial should cover that though.

Blake MergedThis is a very slow game and the first three hours of any map is a very strict build order that the player learns through trial and error, which feels tedious and obnoxious. I want to build dams but with each map I try I need 2-3 attempts to figure out the correct build order and each attempt is about three hours long. That's 6-9 hours of effort before I'm allowed to start playing the game and once the player has passed that threshold the rest of the game is entirely different.
That's when the fun begins, Timberborn is not a challenge game, if I want raids and fires and plagues I'll go play Rimworld. What I enjoy about Timberborn is urban/economic planning and the first time I figure out the correct build order for a given map I get a sense of achievement, once, and it's just the payoff for overcoming 6-9hours of tedium/frustration. By contrast the vast majority of my enjoyment comes after that when the games stops getting in the way of my fun and I get to play with the sandbox. -

Thijs Albers MergedIt might help to make the forester from just logs instead of planks as well. Otherwise it is very difficult to set up independent colonies; you essentially start over the game by having to get to the stage of planks.
Cheers,
Thijs:) -

kwinten moors Mergedi started the game and i was instantly drawn to the mechanic of stacking (also one of the main reasons i bought the game) but i found out that you have to wait for the inventor to be build and to make the science to unlock the stairs. so the first buildings you build have to be build on the ground and i think its a missed opertunity because you will in later stages just destroy those buildings.

Steve MergedRemove the need for planks from the Forrester building so that tree planting can happen sooner as it's such a vital resource to get going
