Fix the engines (power up for balance)
The Iron Teeth’s engines need a fix
Detailed calculation and explanation with screenshots is here https://discordapp.com/channels/558398674389172225/723433090944335933/890891336004284426
in short:
To produce 1200hp
Using power wheels: 24 beavers and 162 squares
Using engines: 18 beavers and 526 squares of space (33% less beavers but 224% more land), imagine if you need to scale it to 3000hp
The engines become available later in the game than wheels and require science and more advanced materials, they have to be not just on the same level but actually better than power wheels, otherwise there is no point building them, and currently they are inferior.
My opinion, the engines need a fix. Here are a few suggestions:
1) Make them more powerful
2) Keep the power at the same level but make them more efficient (burn less logs)
3) Make it possible to select some engines to turn off during non-working hours and not waste logs

Gin Fuyou AdminMaybe turn engine into real steam engine instead of "smoke" one? Make it require water but less wood. Also we suggested coal as more efficient fuel and maybe power upgrades?

BowflingerIron teeth already require a bit more water for their breeding pots. In a game that is largely about managing water for draughts, steam would be a major drawback. The worst case for Folktail is either not getting enough power - if there is no wind - or spending too much wood on windmills they don't need.
A mis-managed steam engine could mean death, because you used up too much water. And for non-technical players it is hard to estimate how much water they would use up over the entirety of the draught. You would need to know/calculate in advance whether you can afford to let them run.
But the engine definitely needs some form or number tweak ( as does the irrigation tower when compared to a water dump into a 1x1x1).
Maybe make it into different tiers:
Have one engine, but allow it to burn different fuels.
Early game /low power: dried wood ( ~small wind mill)
Late game/high power: coal (~big windmill) -

Warfrog200hp always seemed low for the investment of science and metal. I never did the math but yeah 224% more land is insane. They don't need to be as space efficient but at least doubling the hp would probably make them a lot more palatable.

AndreasAdding water instead of half or 2/3 of the wood seems good in my opinion.
Only smoke do not power any engines. But wood and water do. -

Wolfbrother84 Merged180 for a water wheel vs 200 for a very expensive to build engine, i feel like it would be better to have the engine create enough power to at the very least power one shredder fully all on its own
