Crash on startup of the game

I have this problem from time to time - not often, but maybe on 1 of 5 game starts.

Normal behaviour:
Screen goes black, Windows shows the waiting cursor [blue wheel, NO arrow] for a few seconds, then the waiting cursor [blue wheel, WITH arrow] for a few seconds, then the splash screen shows and everything is fine.

Crash behaviour:
Screen goes black, Windows shows waiting cursor [blue wheel, NO arrow] and it stays that way forever.

I can go ctrl+alt+del to access the task manager, but the mouse is captured by unity and I have to use the keyboard to interact with the task manager and kill the process.

I have added a screenshot to show the task manager status while the crash is active.
Not sure, but it seems like the in game error screen cannot be loaded.
