Haulers waste time moving balancing storages or tanks - desired amount defaults are inefficient
The haulers carry the logs between two nearby log piles.
I'm not sure if this is normal

CS MergedHaulers move water back and forth between Large Water Tanks endlessly, even during the dry season when the pumps are turned off and there is nothing fresh incoming. There are 2 Large Water Tanks in my setup.

FuryoftheStars MergedOMG, yes!! They do this for small tanks, too.
They’re “balancing” out the load/distribution of the water. There needs to be some higher/lower thresholds for this…. -

Jcheung Mergedthey try to balance when they have nothing else to do, or try to average it if it's 'desired by multiple places'. if you reduce 'desired' and it still happens, you have too many haulers which is a very good problem to have.

FuryoftheStars MergedThe AI needs to worry less about balancing the supply/demand between all of the storage units and more about closest first. Getting tired of watching beavers run from one side of a district to the other to get food/drink, then have to run all the way back when there were storage units capable of servicing their needs a lot closer. Or watching the haulers balancing the load between multiple storage units, but they're only 1 or 2 units of goods at a time.

Helgi Gunnar MergedI watched for some time several beavers take water from a pump to a small storage, then to another storage and again and this continued back and forth for some time. The tanks were not full. Pumps were prioritized. I assume this is a minor bug, but still relevant, especially just before a drought. :)

chess123mate MergedI have found it tremendously more efficient to try and avoid setting "Desired" to anything and to force haulers to move things efficiently by emptying out storage of logs/water/etc, but the micromanaging is awful:
1. Click on each of the relevant storage buildings (sometimes 10 of them) and click Empty. Make sure these are prioritized.
2. If there are multiple nearby destinations, make sure to set the ones you *don't* want more resources at to "Empty" but *not* prioritized.
3. Once the haulers empty out the prioritized ones, you can repeat the process (but be sure to carefully monitor which ones you have set to "Empty" and restore them when you're done).
Further, this strategy is usually in conflict with workers producing more resources. Using district trading sort of helps between districts, except it's less efficient than the above strategy, takes more space, employs less beavers, and is only for between districts. -

Emiel MergedHaulers balance out storage over the available storage facilities. First off: this is generally a great mechanic as it ensures resources are available everywhere! But this also leads to inefficient use of their time in some cases. For example: they start balancing out water tanks because 30 beavers drank from the closest ones while a pump station is inactive because its internal water storage is full. This is especially troublesome on hard mode when you need to fill the water reserves to survive a 29 day dry season in just 6 rainy days (of which the first one is spend refilling reservoirs).
A possible solution would be to allow haulers to balance storage only when they are otherwise idle, prioritize picking up goods from production buildings, or only balance storage units when they are 25% over/under the balanced level. -

Zach MergedIt would be good to be able to toggle on the behavior of deliberately filling storage to the desired amount, instead of that being the norm. This would get around all the transferring between storage warehouses to even them out, when there are better things to be hauling. Warehouses could then be mainly used to make space in production buildings. Could also be a "Keep this full unless you run out everywhere else" option, which would be useful for setting up warehouses close to building projects and establishing them for new districts.

Gin Fuyou AdminIt's normal and wrong at same time. It's not a bug, it's behaviour of "desired" amount of storage buildings. But as you can see it often causes "undesired" effect that can even paralyze your logistics. For now I recommend setting desired amounts based on where you need those goods, e.g. log pile next to lumber mill may want to have always a supply of some logs, (desired: 60), while one that just around lumberjack sites can be set to 0.
Devs will also have to address the problem at some point. -

UpsetBeaverCitizen MergedI found that Beavers working at the Hauling post will move water from water tank to water tank, I tried turning the stock/desired but then the worker stopped transporting water from the water tank. The same happened too my log storages and the lumberjack flag.
Please tell me if there's a solution, If not Please Fix this!
-Thank You- -

JerBer Merged(Issue)
I noticed that beavers would constantly move around resources between storage locations (storage balancing?). The issue arises once you have more than 100 beavers moving resources constantly. This is more apparent when there are more than one large water tanks - constant movement of water between 8 or more tanks. This causes beaver haulers to not refill the empty tanks. Game productivity time is then wasted causing town development to fail right before a drought begins. This issue can also be observed once the river dries up.
(Suggestion)
Not sure about other storage buildings, however... would it be possible to have the beavers not move water BETWEEN water storage tanks UNLESS the tank is marked EMPTY STORAGE?
Also, if suggestion above is not feasible, would it be possible to have a toggle selection on storage tanks linking a specific one to another? i.e. tank 1 located at lower elevation toggled to fill tank 8 located at higher elevation but not tank 7 adjacent to tan -

iDrakeIn one game I have large water tanks that account for storage of +9100 water units. I noticed the haulers spending a lot of time balancing them. In an attempt to stop this, I set all the water tanks to empty storage. Game performance was heavily impacted, only getting a few frames per second with all of them set to this configuration. Fount it interesting. :)
