Perfomance issues with higher beavers population - low FPS with many beavers
The game starts to lag after reaching 400 Beavers. First it starts with very short lags but with increasing progress the Lags get longer and longer. The FPS rate trops from 27 to 1 frame per second. I had checked my CPU und GPU useage. CPU is unter 20% and the GPU is aproximately 45%.

Naraphim MergedI played through 18 cycles and I've found that the game, while initially quick on my 16 core/32 thread 32 GB system is now increasing slow especially when the river overflows its banks and begins flooding buildings. Its as if the fluid dynamics simulation is eating its own face.
Also, steam takes screenshots in jpg format but this site needs jpeg which is dumb -

Not sure what you mean, those are same thing, extensions for JPEG format -

Rosie MergedI have also found that the frame rate has significantly dropped and the game has slowed down. I'm on cycle 32 with 400 beavers though and I haven't done any where near as much building as the OP.

Rob S MergedCurrently have tons of warehouses (20+ Iron Tooth 1000 warehouses). As soon as they are full, the game crawls, but my CPU usage and GPU usage plummet (<40% CPU and <5% GPU, usually see ~40% GPU and ~80% CPU). Also goes back to 125+fps as soon as beavers sleep. I think the haulers are freaking out moving stuff between storage units to "balance" them and it is crippling my FPS.
-
28 Nov, '21
Gin Fuyou Admin MergedIndeed it's a problem, for now I can suggest removing desired amounts everywhere you don't really need them.

Rob S MergedI was playing tonight and discovered if I either “empty” a warehouse (which gets me a few minutes of speed) or keep the number of haulers below 45 I’m good. (guessing they are busy enough they don’t get bored and try shuffling goods between warehouses).
I love the game. Different enough from something like sim city that it’s truly fun. -

DanO MergedHaving 8 districts and over 400 population screen got slow with mouse movement. cant play game unless on pause wait to set up then unpause to build. I am running on a dell G7 17 with 32 gigs of ram all other specs are from factory. suggess/ tions? i tried running video on low setting but did not improve speed

Gin Fuyou Admin MergedGame is mostly CPU-heavy, and not all loads are multi-threaded at the moment. You could try optimizing your storages, namely removing desired amount everywhere you don't need it. Check if your CPU doesn't overheat and throttle. Don't have better suggestions so far, I fear.

Lukas MergedDear dev team,
Normally I can play the most games with a quite ~30-50fps in ultra settings.
When I reached around 480 pop I start to have huge fps problems.
Interesting it is going quite good when pop is sleeping. I think there might be some algorithmic problems which cause my game to slow down, is there anything you might already considered or do you want my full spec and gamefile? -
13 Jan, '22
Gin Fuyou Admin MergedYou could share your PC specs, namely CPU and GPU models, RAM amount and used OS. But performance issues are known, mostly CPU-related, and dev team has some optimizations planned.
Also at the moment you could try improve performance by removing desired amount on any storages where you don't needed, it may cut some calculations. -

HütscheI do have the same problem. I'm at 750 Beavers meanwhile and it's almost unplayable, even at speed 2.
I really hope you can fix this issue, as I'm not willing to start over and over all the time just 'cause of lags.
You designed an awesome game, but don't let it get down'd by those kind of problems.
Thanks -

Matze MergedNot a native speaker so be polite ;)
I would wish me, that i could expand my Beaver-Imperium to 1000 or more Beavers without the peformance problems. At a Number of 350 its almost unplayable for me ;(
Maybe u could make a new option "bustle factor" so that at higher populations less beavers would shown on the map (like anno 1800) or any other solution.
Its a great Game and i cant wait to see more content QoL ect.
Thanks -

Gummibaer MergedI had this on 2 maps now.
At one point in the game the FPS are dropping rappidly from 50-60 fps to 2-5 fps when you have to many buldings/beavers.
I am at 355 beavers now and it just started droping the fps like crazy. Especially on 2x or 3x speed.
And it is only present on day time. so in the night the fps go up to 60fps again and on day they are dropping rappidly to 2-5fps again. -

Gin Fuyou Admin MergedYes, it scales with number of beavers and things like path network complexity, I fear maps were never intended to be fully populated (that doesn't by any means stop you from making them completely green)
Some optimizations are in the work, but don't expect any wonders soon. -
16 Feb, '22
Adem Aber Aouni MergedI don't know if this apply here (this is my small understanding from what I understood how the game worked while playing it), a possible optimization could be not to compute what each beaver has to do (or where to go) at each step. a subset of the beavers could recompute what to do based on events (kinda in a asyncron manner).
I,e. if a building need materials it could be added to the queue of things to do for the haulers, and when a hauler takes the job his whole path is computed at that moment. If a road is removed then all possible beavers using this road (probably just the whole district) get's notified and recomputed paths.
I'm sorry if I'm totally off the mark and my comment is useless, but wanted to share nonetheless if it ever helps.
I have a lot of fun with the game and can't wait to see what you guys will do next ! -

Tommy-xan MergedFirst, let me say I love this game... very fun.
My main problem is the poor performance using 256x256 maps. As the game develops, it becomes impossible to enjoy to to huge lags, spinning wheels, and crazy video artefacts (including strange shapes shooting to/from the sky and even white-coloured code appearing!) Probably more an issue for my M1 Mac Mini since it only has 8GB memory and I am running the game off an external drive, but would be great if the game was playable for people using devices with memory/storage limitations.
Also, there is an annoying lag every time the game Autosaves irrespective of map size. I would hope that this lag will be eliminated as it affects gameplay and enjoyment since the game effectively freezes during the Autosave. -

Gin Fuyou Admin MergedAs far as I know game runs fine on 8GB RAM, and storage requirements are very low. And if you see graphical artifacts, it's a good chance it's issue on your side. But you could send manually a bug report, containing more info as described here: https://mechanistry.com/bug

TheRealShash MergedI'm at around 700 beavers (cycle 45) and FPS drops to about 4 every day, and rebounds when the evening starts.
Seems to have started after I built and staffed about 30 power wheels (have 85 total now).
GPU 20%, CPU 25%, process holding 4GB RAM with plenty available.
It's a little older rig (GTX 980 Ti / i7-4790k) running in 4k but should do better than this.
It came on suddenly between 500 and 700 beavers.
Changing graphix settings makes no difference.
I can send saves and stuff if interested.
Fun game so far... but would be better on PS5. -

QuasiModem Mergedgame runs fine on my system until about 175 beavers. then everything drops to about 3fps.
system settings changed for "larger population", medium graphics, or lower.
nvidia 2080 Super and i7 9th gen (9700k) 32gb RAM, SSD for all local drives.
seriously need to fix the code that turns this game into a chop fest at the first sign of anything great.
love the game, hate the way it takes down solid hardware. -

ben hart MergedLove this game but can not play due to lag. hit 270 with no problems running a average of 60 to 90 fps on ultra settings. Suddenly start getting lag spikes. Night time its still around 60 fps and day time it drops down to 1 fps after a min or 2 of the beavers waking up.
Task manager shows 21 percent usage with 2gb ram, i have no thermal issues and my graphics card is not showing any bottle knecks.
I have only noticed this after loading a saved game, as far as i am aware there was no issues before this (starting a fresh game and playing upto the 270 beaver mark).
I did try reducing the graphics to low and resolution town to around 20 percent. there was no difference in the lag no matter the graphical settings. Please fix this as i love the game but as it stands it is not playable. -

As soon as end work is reached everything return to normal. -

EonHex MergedHello. I have multiple large districts currently and 400+ beavers and now I'm getting low fps (30 - 40). I was playing on ultra since start (pc specs 2070s, intel i7 10700k, 16GB ram) and had to lower it to High res. only got to 45~ fps. I understand that large districts will demand more of my pc and also that I don't have the most powerful pc to get the fps I want. But do you plan on having DLSS in this game to help with that? (sorry if it's not compatible with this game, not too familiar with the technical issues behind DLSS, or if its even possible for this game). Anyways thanks for a great game and keep up the great work
-
01 Jul, '22
Gin Fuyou Admin MergedGame is CPU heavy, so DLSS won't help, we are waiting for code optimization, and maybe better threading.
