The game starts fine but slows to unplayable levels after about 40 beavers on my M1 MacBook.

Steam version should start native build iirc. Please check in your process manager what architecture it reports for Timberborn process.

Update 4 is virtually unplayable on M1 Mac Mini 8GB. So slow, laggy and graphics jerky. Previous versions were slightly better, but not great. Such a pity, because it starts off as an enjoyable game...
