Bug: 1.0 experimental causes gpu page fault under proton
As of the visual update, the game can randomly crash under proton and bring the entire graphical environment down with it. sometimes it recovers but most of the time the system is left in an unusable state that requires a power cycle. This did not happen before. Crashes occur randomly and can happen immediately on load or take multiple hours. They all seem tied to user actions either in UI or in world, but that could be coincidence.
The GPU in this system is a Radeon 7900XTX running the 20251021-1 firmware and the 25.0.0-1 video driver under Xorg on EndeavourOS. I've tested this on the three latest experimentals as of november 6th (so excluding the steam engine and copy settings fixes) using the recommended proton version, as well as explicitly specified proton-9.0-4 and GE-proton10-25.
Logs have been sent to the email address indicated in the pinned issue together with the above description.

I'm having this issue on two systems using KDE. It crashes me all the way back to the login screen of my machine within a few minutes of loading the game. This started exactly one week ago, 11/5. I played for several hours on 11/4 without issues. One system is Ubuntu based, and the other is Debian based. Please contact me if I can help. -

limeAfter fiddling with the settings i can now confirm that it's the new water in particular that causes crashes. setting water effects to low seems to make the crash completely disappear.

lbraunExperiencing similar problem, the 5 times i tried the crash was few seconds into a new game, after creating and naming the settlement. Same for established settlements.
Unfortunately no error logs from timberborn, did not dig into the system for now, but behaviour is the same, game triggers something that makes the graphical enviroment (usign gnome desktop) go down. Didn't have to restart the machine, just logs me out->graphical env resets and system is working again -

Gin Fuyou AdminPlease do share crash logs if you already haven't. Instructions can be found in the pinned topic. I confirmed with devs they are willing to look at linux issues though it's still not officially supported.

Chalwa bechatexI'm using nobara KDE. I expierienced frequent crashes on Proton GE, experimental and hotfix.
Switching to proton 9 is disabling camera panning for middle mouse button (scroll click) and dragging areas or paths.
Here is a topic with other people having similar problems.

benjitheengiexperienced a bunch of these crashes on Cachyos KDE happening almost immediately upon moving around the camera. YOU GUYS ARE LIFE SAVERS, setting water to low stopped the crashes as far as I can tell. unfortunately none of these crashes generated log files in my case. I really want to help in any way I can so if theres another way to contribute please let me know

benjitheengiI wanted to update my comment by saying that the issue has returned somehow, I tried updating my whole system including drivers. (Which I shouldve done anyway woops) but im still experiencing this issue in the experimental build. I did however finally find my log files, which I will be submitting immediately, that curiously includes the following:
ERROR: Shader Hidden/Universal Render Pipeline/DBufferClear shader is not supported on this GPU (none of subshaders/fallbacks are suitable)
GPU: AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT (RADV NAVI22) -

vagrantprodigyI had the same error in my logs @Benjitheengi, also with a 6700XT. I just upgraded to a 9070XT, and the issue appears to be gone.

buildthedamSome discussion here: https://www.protondb.com/app/1062090
I was able to play for about an hour but then the game crashed so hard even REISUB didn't help. I'm on Navi 10 (RX 5700) and running proton experimental in mint. -

JockerilI had the "disabled camera panning and dragging" issue until I switched to proton-Cachy on a CachyOS KDE system (Arch based Linux):
OS: CachyOS x86_64
Kernel: Linux 6.18.2-2-cachyos
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4790K (8) @ 4.50 GHz
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Lite Hash Rate [Discrete]
DE: KDE Plasma 6.5.4
WM: KWin (Wayland) -

buildthedamProtondb has upgraded Timberborn to platinum or 'Runs perfectly out of the box', though its not clear if the folks having a good experience are on the experimental branch or not. Seems that those folks are using proton 10.0-3 however, which seems like the best bet.
