Headphones-speaker sound bug

There's a bug where the sound starts playing through the speakers instead of the headphones, and I'm not entirely sure how to trigger it, but it's happened to me several times.
From what i can tell, it happens if:
1. you have minimised the game window
2. pulled the headphones out
3. then put the headphones back in
4. then go back to the game window.
The sound is now playing out of the speakers, and won't change back to the headphones even if you remove them and put them back in while the game is maximised.
I am on a Macbook Pro, Apple M1 Max, with Ventura 13.7.8, playing via steam.
