Known issues, running and troubleshooting on Linux with Wine or Proton
Game is not officially supported on Linux but proven to run quite well. See https://www.protondb.com/app/1062090 for more tips.
- Mouse dragging actions do not work well in proton < 10. Proton 10 and Experimental are recommended on March 2026.
- Game might crash on launch with proton exp. try this launch options from protonDB: PROTON_USE_WINED3D=1 %command%
- Intro video might not play on some distributions. See pinned comments for suggested solution.
- Game files including saves and logs are kept within wine or proton "prefix" (dir emulating windows file structure). In case of Steam it will be inside you Steam Library, like: "steamapps/compatdata/1062090/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/"
- Mods work on Linux, just don't use BepinEx it's not required and will crash.
- You can run game on Linux without Steam as well, e.g. if you own it from GoG or EGS, but it might be more tricky to setup. See https://timberborn.wiki.gg/wiki/Supported_Operating_Systems#Linux_OS' for useful links.

Issue might be that proton has outdated codec. You can try replace and symlink file from your system instead.

AnssiGOG version of Timberborn running through Bottles on Fedora.
Mouse hold-and-drag did not work with my previous runner, so actions like laying paths and selecting trees had to be done one click at a time.
Switching the Bottles runner to Proton-EM 10-34 fixed the issue for me.
Setup:
Fedora Linux 44 Workstation
Kernel: 7.0.12-201.fc44.x86_64
Bottles + Proton-EM 10-34
NVIDIA driver: 595.80
