Modding Support
It could be something as simple as changing the configuration of already existing buildings. But being able to make your own would be even better.

Steam Workshop Mods have my vote! New content will certainly extend re-play-ability!!! Thanks for your consideration. -

Fidget+1 to this. Modding is wildly popular, and even forced into games that don't naively support modding by developers. This game already has a wild and large userbase and popularity, modding would greatly expand the potential of the game, being a large benefit to you (the developers) as you'll get to see a lot of exciting new concepts, buildings, ideas, and mechanics added to the game by avid modders. When players grow bored of the base game, a healthy modding community can breath new life into the game for them!

BionukeAs long as its steam workshop I am totally down for this. Makes it so easy to add mods. Also then as a developer you can see what is most popular and just implement it with the mod author's help. I'll never understand why most studios dont do this. Space Engineers for example has mods that have been very popular and around for a long time and haven't just been added to the game. *shrug*

ZarkMods add so much to many of my favorite games that honestly wouldn't be the same game without it, like RimWorld. Modding adds so much content and sliders to customize the gameplay in a new and unique way that makes the game endlessly replayable. New mods and trying random playthroughs and challenges will keep a game alive for a long time.

ThomasAs a Simulated construction type game, it contains a mass of work. I think if opening the steam workshop, you can reduce the work and find plenty of cooool idea!

KeeganDefinitely different but a great example of something similar would be rimworld, a hand full of official build release, beta 18,19 1.0 through 1.3 and their are like 10,000 mods, with restrictions based on dlc ownership. So much can be made, especially (with mods) crowd sourcing ideas, functionality and what the community is looking for. This may help development in bringing about new ideas, or even just have the game that people come back to time and time again, because of the possibilities.

Christopher PowellI would say also add scripting support, the idea being to make it possible for those with the skills to add new features ourselves.

JamieThe Sims has a panel in which to enable mods. They prefix it with a pop-up saying 'mods aren't a designed part of the game' and this is a good way to communicate to a player that what they're adding changed the game passed what the devs intended. But making mods a toggle-able part of The Sims' settings makes it easier (and safer) for players to choose how they wish to interact with the game. I think Timberborn could benefit from something like this.

Austin+1 I absloutly loved this idea. I also loved the idea of custom buildings and we could add blueprints that would be cool.

Fan of Rabbits and RatsMod support would be amazing, I would love to see other playable species with their own challenges, but that definitely feels like its out of the scope of the main game

VasSteam Workshop support would be great. The ability to have mods auto update and to click a button to simply get the mod from steam would be nice. Modders can then specify a workshop ID as a required mod, which will then tell the game to load those mods in the proper load order based on the subscribed list and what prereqs have been specified.

LapillusModding can significantly extend the amount of enjoyable game play, especially in building games, both by adding new things to play and by getting rid of the annoyances that make starting a different game sound like an excellent idea.

RayneModding is already possible, but adding new buildings to the game seems to be extremely difficult (only one person has succeeded so far). Since some people who play these types of games can handle Blender, I think that if adding buildings to the game became easier, more models would be created, like in Cities Skylines.

Knatte_AnkaSince last update of unofficial TimberAPI for Experimental its now a lot easier to add buildings see. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15juA0Fl6ZjbYmoNTg_vjMophBvtjMz8YNUI_KmNdtdg/edit#gid=0 for list of supported mods.

DevDexWhile i agree with modding in principal, i think it should be subjeect to moderation or acceptance by the Dev, otherwise you end up with things being introduced into the game which are not strictly relevant, or suitable, for the game type. While i am aware than many modders just go with an idea and see where it leads, i feel this not always the best path.

Some1ellseI think official modding support if seriously under consideration should be a very high priority from a dev standpoint. Releasing official mod support would make any mod repository(Steam, Nexus, Thunderstore, etc.) not only a feature request board just like this, but would also carry with it the practical testing and user feedback of the different mods/features. I'm also quite positive that a significant number of mod authors would be happy to have their code implemented into the game for reasonable compensation, maybe even just for credit/acknowledgement.

Gin Fuyou AdminSome1ellse, what would official support change from current state? We already have an official mod hub. Incorporating actual mods into the game is highly unlikely anyway for many reasons.
The biggest thing we could get is built-in official mod manager. That would certainly simplify mod usage. And that is quite possible to happen. -

lauri0It would be of immense help to modders if specifications could be used for more things. Stuff like changing growth rates or log output of trees/plants would ideally just be a numbers tweak using specifications. In general, the more could be tweaked with specifications, the better.

VasIts funny that I once supported this, and only now realize I was very wrong towards steam's workshop and how bad it was to allow this to be added to the game. Too late now I guess.
Modding support is great, but steam workshop was not the way to go. The developers must now deal with a torrent of bug reports caused by the lack of update capability to mods via the workshop, and because Valve will never fix it, they will now have to program in a new forced update method for mods on the steam workshop to properly update mods or they must take workshop support out and replace with the mod manager for mod.io mods.
Its sad that I couldn't participate in the community to warn of these issues before now and explain these things in depth better before now. I tried, but no one heard me.
