Extremely low fps at speed 3
When using the fastest speed mode the fps drops into the single digits, this happens even when having just started a game.

IorwerthI have this issue, I've completely reinstalled and is still present. When I selecting the fastest speed, the fps will drop from 60fps to 2fps but for me only on 256*256 maps. Weirdly, when selecting the fastest speed, the gpu usage drops from 50ish% down to less than 10%. It seems like the game is throttling itself to a standstill when gpu usage hits a certain point or when max speed is selected.

Bryan EnochsMission: Fill up the entire map, even if I'm chugging along at 1-3 fps! I admit I am pushing the games limits, I'm just trying to reach the maps limits lol... That said I have a decent computer and game doesn't seam to be taking advantage of its full muscle. The CPU is steady around 20-25% usage and the GPU around 40-50%,

My computer has more to give; my beavers and my sanity depend on staying above 10 fps lol.

John MergedSo I've got 11 hours of gameplay in over the course of a week and its been running great. Had a huge colony and it was running like butter on fast forward. All of a sudden today its running awful. Stutters on normal speed a little, but on fast forward it drops to 1FPS and takes 5 seconds for a mouse click to register. Tried a fresh game with 11 beavers. Tried a fresh install. Tried the game in safe mode. Does it in all scenarios. Ran other games fine. Runs cyberpunk fine, but the beavers are...stumped...

Alex MergedHi,
I've played about 20 hours. And last night I started experiencing crazy bad frame rates (at the fastest speed) during the day. It'll slow to like 7fps. I only have 1 district and about 100 beavers. During the night, even as they're all pathfinding home, it's up at 140 fps. I watch my resource utilization, none of my cpu cores are about 40%, and during the worst of the frame drops, when it's basically a slideshow, my gpu is showing single digit utilization.

MushiousI'm noticing this issue as well. On normal speed, the game is mostly fine, with slight stuttering when moving quickly. When on 3x speed, the game drops to 2-4fps.
I also noticed that the game is constantly pegging CPU core 2 at 90-100% utilization. CPU 8 and CPU 9 show ~50% utilization while other cores show 5-10% at most.
If the game is paused, the fps normalizes. At night when the beavers go to bed, the fps also normalizes.

Solidpoint MergedThe game lows down. Speed 3x is not playable. After 400 beavers it quickly turns to the worst. Seeing fps < 20 with even drops to 5 fps. CPU utilization is between 8% and 12%, GPU utilization is around 35% (30% tot 40%). Not sure what the bottleneck is at this point. Because i know not all cores will be used, but the cores that are are never 100% used.

IorwerthI did some experimenting as I was having the issue at max speed and realised that an energy saving setting in the BIOS was causing the issue. My i7 3770k was under clocked to 1.8ghz and the game was running at 3fps at max speed and 60fps for all other speeds. After disabling EPU, my CPU was running around 3.5ghz - 3.9ghz and was now running at 60 fps at all speeds, I found that the game drops from 60fps to 3fps once it goes below 2.5Ghz - 3.0ghz. I'm posting this here in case this can help someone resolve the issue for themselves or in the off chance it narrows down the cause of the game throttling itself at max speed.

ThagustaHI,
I've noticed this slowdown also above >700 beavers. I went up to 1150 beavers before it became completely unplayable (also slow framerate for normal speed). I have an AMD Ryzen 5 2600; 16GB ram. The video settings did not matter at all, it seems solely a CPU thing.
Couple of observations:
- Number of buildings also makes it slow in endgame. (I completely filled up the map, but killed off most my beavers to like pop count 300).
- It seems mostly unemployed/idle beavers make the game slow. I had the worst critical slowdowns when I moved like 200 beavers to an empty district (to kill them off, sorry...). Also I have a single district with 800 beavers and many unemployed, which was wayy slower than several districts with 800 beavers who are mostly working. -

BevermahnHaving the same issue. Had a large colony going and the the issue began. started a new game and the slow fps started right away. It goes down to 2 fps the problem seems to flow up and down between regular > 50 fps and 2. This does not appear dependent on night/day I can hear my GPU fan cycle up and down as if the game is not calling for use.

KHRegular Fps drop in all speed. Actually game is playable only in 3x speed, play in 1x speed it's take forever to do something. In FPS drop no matter how many beaver's you are but how you change the map base layout, dynamite some big blocks and changing water flow a lot. All changes in the map responds to RAM usage, until restart game. Then RAM usage always is much less, and slowly grow..
Big dynamite explosions always is in 1FPS no matter in 3x or 1x.
Max CPU load when 1 FPS 9%
Max RAM use 3.2GB (when game runs in 3x speed and 1FPS)
Max GPU use 15%

JasonGot the same issue, 2 districts can't remember how many beavers but probably 5-600 during the day it slows down to as low as 1 or 2 fps, and usually runs around 4-7 as soon as it gets dark and the beavers start pathfinding home it bumps to 20-30 fps, once they have all gone to bed it goes up to about 40fps. As soon as the sun comes up and they start pathfinding to work it drops to around 12-15 and once they have all gotten to work it works it's way back down again. It seems to get worse the later into the day it is. I got this info without moving the camera or mouse for 2 entire day cycles. Graphics settings don't seem to affect it. This is after making some significant changes to water flow with explosives and pumps during this session. I will pull the save and logs and send em your way.

-

Gin Fuyou AdminLdsVegeta, what are your hardware specs? 40 is very few, even demo allowed up to 70 when it was much less optimized than now.
Probably there is some issue that causes specific bottleneck on fastest speed in some cases. -

DuskyRE: fully rebooting the PC then running the game with as few as possible other apps running.
I have just tried this, but unfortunately it didn't affect the issue.
The issue started for me when:
Beaver pop exceeded 400
I increased number of beavers employed as haulers by 20-30.
As per other's accounts, my CPU and GPU do not come close to hitting 100% (Ryzen7 4800H, RTX 2060 6GB Mobile, 16GB RAM), other than one core (core 5) hitting 60-80%, and the problem only occurs on highest speed - though 2nd speed is a little jittery at times.
It runs at 60-70fps when not at max speed. Adjusting quality settings does not affect the issue.
I've sent save and log files. -

Tousky ResteHi there,
There are about 10-20threads talking about this issue and its always the same.
TR2920 - 12c/24t@4.3ghz / 32gb@3200mhz / 1Tb 970Evo+ Dedicated Nvme. It doesn't matter how strong your PC is.
I've been running a test for the last week (+250cycles); ~40building, ~70beavers and I've been planting explosives (+25k) and detonating them for the fun of it and watched the FPS/UPS dropping over time. There seems to be an issue with the code scanning the map for "warning" and it leaks into the saved file as soon you hit the kernel limit and it wont return back to normal once cleared. The game was 144fps/144ups and its down to 110/38 at 3x without anything going on. I would highly suspect a kernel leak in the query that scan the map for warning, or an indexing issue within the game file. I can easily drop the game to 20/1 with +2000 (ghost) breading pods pending to be built at 1x on a fresh map and breaking the saved file permanently. -

MichelleI'm having this issue. It seems like it is directly proportionate to beavers displayed on screen. Changing graphical settings does not seem to have any affect. It appears like it's limiting the game to 2-3 cores, and even boosting, the CPU is still choking. The image is from a few minutes letting the camera sit idle over a district with ~260 beavers and 30 golems, with ~600 global beaver pop. You can see how two of my cores are just super loaded up, but my GPU is barely being used. I was getting a slide show during the day, but when the beavers went to sleep, I got ~18 FPS. Maybe the Beaver's pathing needs to be offloaded to another core?

LoksurSimilar problem here. At speed 3 it lags so much it could be called seconds per frame instead. It doesn't matter what Map i play either.
I did let the task manager run on my second screen and what I'm seeing is that everything runs on minimum and the GHz of the CPU fall drastically when using faster speeds.
I drop from 1.3 GHz clock speed to 0.8ghz. this is the only game it does that. The CPU usually scales up with higher use.

Gin Fuyou AdminLoksur, 3600x has base frequency of 3.8 GHz, what are you talking about?
Game can't control CPU frequency anyway, if it enters power-saving state, it's probably issue with OS\firmware or overheating -

Mikko L.I've experienced the same after the most recent Experimental Branch update (v0.3.4.0-17756bb-xsw). A few days ago game ran fine with 3x speed, but today after a few minutes in the game FPS drops from 60 to 1-2 when switching to 3x.

Alex with an XI've experienced the same issue, since the recent Experimental Branch update, the game started to run very slow even with the normal speed, except for the nightime, but if I put the 3x speed it seems to just crash, especially when days hit noon, I can´t even select something because of the lag.

Jamie CUpdate 4 has helped a lot with these issues compared to Update 3.
And, I find no difference in speeds with modded or unmodded games with update 4 during Experimental and after Update 4 went to Early Access.
I have noted that the amount of static items in the game will slow things way down. Such as adding too many trees in the Map Editor can slow the game to a crawl to make it unplayable when starting the new 'custom' map. Some guidlines in the Wiki (Map Editor) would be helpful here.
