More Granular Control of FloodGates (more level settings)
When the Dry Season is there and you have a big Water storage Lake Upstream of the Settlement, it is easy to Flood everything when lowering the Gate by 0.5 Meters. So it would be great to be able to lower it in smaller increments.

Floodgates currently only have half level increments. It would be nice to have quarter, fifths, eights, or even tenths, so you can fine tune water levels better.
This would allow prioritizing where water flows to between paths, have a preferred path, and then an overflow path.
For players like me that manage large amounts of water to combat the dry seasons, it would be great to have more options and control with water management. -

NathanFloodgates should be able to be adjusted to match a levee height, not sure if that is 75% or what.
Also it would be great to have some way to 'automate' the floodgate to maintain a set water flow. perhaps a different building or even a waterwheel would do the job with the correct process. -

Zam! MergedRight now the floodgate only has "dropped" , "middle" and "top" setting, represented by (0), (0.5) and (1). I suggest adding an additional step at the level of (0.75) as an "overflow gate" setting. This way we can use the flood gate to maximize the output of a dam block, but still prevent overflow when the dam block is at a maximum capacity by adding a floodgate option.
IN OTHER WORDS:
Please allow the floodgate to be set for HIGHER level than the regular fixed dam block, so it can be used as an overflow buffer. -

Knotta Realbeaver MergedInstead of only blocking off water levels in increments of 0.5, allow for finer control of water height, such as 0.1 incremental changes. A finer control Floodgate for instance could cost more resources to build.
Also, a spillway with a set height of 0.9 or 0.95 would allow for more water storage by volume in a reservoir. The Spillway could function like a Dam, whcih lets out so much water from a reservoir and doesn't need to be managed like a Floodgate during droughts. -

FishmanDefenderI agree with everything mentioned above. One suggestion is to do it in increments of 1/5, since this is the demarcation already used on the water depth indicators. It would also be easy then to, at some future date, increase the granularity to increments of 1/10, (which I feel is the "minimum expected" granularity for a system as technical as flow path preference and flow rate balancing).
The granularity should be enough to enable a calculation of the flow-through rate of a pair of floodgates based on the number of pumps that are present between them. Namely, it should be possible to calculate, for n pumps, OutputFlow = InputFlow - n*PumpOutflow, using nothing more than the floodgate increment. If the "InputFlow" floodgate is set to "100% open" (0) and the water level (from the water depth indicators) is 6/5 (or 6 tick marks above ground), then the inflow rate should be 6/5. If the Inflow floodgate is instead set to 40% open (3/5 tick marks), then the inflow rate would be 3/5. -

mrpilipo MergedGame already tracks water levels down to decimal points, so ability to fine tune floodgate levels would come handy. It would give much finer control over water flow, plus add ability to make better use of created reservoirs (0.5 < 0.9). It could be something you enable by a tick-box in floodgates option window.
Adding water level alerts to measuring stick would make it actually helpful.
Adding new building, like dam engineer post could allow linking measuring stick with floodgates with simple rules (similar to distribution post). -

KiranosI'm against more increment. I don't see how it would help managing better the water flow, the result will be the same, and it will be more tedious to select the right level.
You already have a lots of increment by desynchronizing the floodgates. -

Peter DI would like a floodgate with drain hole, or a float-floodgate, or an upside down dam tile to use as a weeping hole. Something to automatically release a slow flow of water.
Maybe it is dev-intended for there not to be a good solution so it's not too easy to manage water. But it could be an expensive end-game tile type of building. -

Jaro Mergedbetter control for the amount of water flow. Alow flood gates to be more granular, like tenths. Or set an amount of water flow where the gate automatically adjusts down as water level drops. maybe this would require a beaver in a control booth so it wouldn't be free automation.

Krufar MergedAs water levels can be measured in two decimals, wouldn't it also be fine if we could adjust flood gates more precisely? At the moment when you have a river bed at depth 1. And try to control the amount of water you are holding during droughts it would be really nice to have a setting thats 0.75, or 0.9. Flood gate at 1 will make everything flood. But a flood gate at 0.5, means you are 50% down on max water. Now you can kind of manage this by closing the floodgates slightly before the draught, but it's odd.

mjevansThe UI should be changed to stick a little near basic fractions (1/3rd and 1/4th block intervals).
A type of adaptive floodgate (probably requires gears too) would also be nice, one which sets a fixed output level as a target rather than the input side level. (obviously full open if unsatisfied) -

ThagustaApart from floodgates having smaller increments (I'd say on same level of detail as water level meters, so every 0.01 steps), we need to be able to let water through the lower part of the gate instead of the upper part to maintain a certain flow without simply "spilling the basin". This could be a different building. A "flow regulator" floodgate, or simply opening the bottom part for 0.1.

AsheryWith relatively realistic water physics, you *need* precise control over at least one axis in order to have meaningful control over the behavior of a dam. And since it's impossible to build partial-width floodgates and levies, this leaves the vertical axis. Ideally, the level of precision would match the water mechanics and be measured in hundreths, with a slider and/or a field to input the numerical value desired in combination with a commit button.

jimmyAn idea I had that would help here is a special floodgate 'endpiece' this is staffed by a beaver and automatically lowers all connected floodgates to maintain waterflow. Obviously we would still need extra increments on the floodgates themselves to facilitate this; but a simple, and logical, way to automate it would be great. And while we're on the topic of floodgates, the Ironteeth totally need a few extra, metal dependant, tiers.

robbotic MergedWater control is one of the best and most unique aspects of the game. Adding more precise control to floodgates would make that more involved and rewarding.
Perhaps add 0.25 increments to the slider bar for convenience, and allow players to type in precise values into the text box.
As it is, 0.5 increments let way too much water out when trying to save in reservoirs. Players have to micromanage completely closing gates in sequence just before droughts in order to fill them more efficiently (causing unnecessary short-term floods in the process). -
