Usage of water for Transportation, floating goods by river
As beaver-folk, it seems reasonable to me, to use the Rivers for transport. Letting beavers collect ressources upstream and dropping them into the water (or in small rafts) to send them downstream, with buildings (maybe a special kind of dam) to collect the incoming goods.

isaacWould really like this! Gives a good way to move large volumes of material around lakes and streams. This could also potentially be upgradeable to have different levels of propulsion for moving across still water or even against a current at higher levels.
I think this would compliment a ropeway/ rail system well. Rafts/ barges are a cheap way to move large amounts of material across flat bodies of water. Something like a ropeway is a high-infrastructure-cost way to move large amounts of material across variable terrain. -

DrillAdding onto this, for rafts/barges, some kind of lock system would be pretty neat. You'd maybe need a little lock keeper's hut a lone beaver would work in, and another type of dam block (a "water lock" maybe) that's an analog of floodgates but lets barges through. Possibly drawbridges as well?
Essentially, the lock keeper will keep all the locks assigned to the hut closed until a barge wants to pass through; at which point they will slowly open that lock until the water level equalizes and the barge can go through. Once all barges waiting on a lock pass through, the lock keeper will close it and move on to the next waiting barge. Only one water lock per hut will be open at a time, and it's on a first come, first serve basis for barges.
Obviously the best way to use these would be to establish a small holding area with a pair of water locks (one for each side) so it can fill or empty as needed, but this should be on the player to do. -

SpaceroksRafts/Barges could do with lock gates to get through built dams

StroamBeavers and water transport do sound amazing together. Just not for this game because it wasn't built with that in mind. It'd take too much work and I'd rather see that much work put into more reasonable features or a new beaver game with that being the goal.

Seal Piercing MergedTwo of the central mechanics of Timberborn are the management of water and the transport of materials. More advanced structures improve the players ability to do these. Throughout history, when humans needed to transport large quantities of materials, rivers were the first resort, either with barges for general materials, or even just rafts of logs lashed together. In the case of strong flow, these might follow the river and be disassembled at the end for planks but when the cargo was sufficiently profitable they could be pulled against the flow from shore or pushed along with poles or even driven by chains.
Using various water-going constructions as an advanced method to transport large quantities of materials would encourage the player to do even more complicated things with water in exchange for greater logistical capacity. To me this seems interesting and aligned with the themes of the game. -

Peter NorthI like this idea. Maybe basic paddle board style things to move one beaver at a time, and ferries / cargo boats for moving more of them and other items.

Kenneth FerlandThis should idea https://timberborn.featureupvote.com/suggestions/211533/allow-or-require-logs-to-the-floated-down-the-river#comment326357 should be merged with this one as logs are just a subset of water transport.

Anton1 beaver loading the raft
1 beaver opearting the raft
1 beaver unloading at the destination point
Tricky questions:
- how large is the raft?
- who is going to pull the raft back?
- how is the raf goung to cross the dams?
Looks likle a good idea to transport wood, planks, resin-upgraded-planks and gears. -

A.BearBeavers now use rivers to transport logs, that seems to be the more logical way of going about things, and it would make water management even more of a thing.

Michał MergedMy idea is to add a system to move goods between districts by rafts. It could be done on rivers/artificial canals.
-add raft builder/decommission point (rafts have default life span ie. goods carried).
-add cargo loading/unloading points
-add raft lift to be able to move between dams/water levels -

Mel MergedAllow Beavers to float resources downstream in barrels.
This would give an interesting asymmetrical dynamic to resource management that is unique to this game, and makes use of the flowing water. It would allow users to watch things floating down the river, which is always fascinating. It also gives the beavers a way of actively using the river. How it might work: after building a jetty, you can fill barrels with resources, then launch them into the water. They float downstream and can be collected by another district. Maybe beavers would dive in to grab the barrels, collect them from a platform just before a dam, or perhaps row out on an adorable little barge. This would give you an efficient way to transport goods downstream without needing a road. You could set up new districts and float resources down to them. Barrels would be unable to get past dams, and perhaps would sink after a while to avoid a big pile of them. Maybe you would need a special type of dam to let them get past. -

AJ MergedAbility to ship logs (and maybe other goods) downstream to a storage facility. If the storage facility is full the items won’t get shipped from upstream buildings. However anything floating may not get picked up and fall off the edge of the map.

TelArjan MergedTransport logs via the water if you have a logging camp upstream.
Saves haulers that have to walk up and down.
Have a small 1x2 station next to water that drops logs in the water.
Have a slightly bigger station collect the logs, using some sort of guide rope/rail to steer all logs to one spot if the river is 5 squares wide for example.
Top station will only send logs if lower station has space -
