Dining Hall (place to eat) [cafe, canteen, tavern, mess, restaurant, kitchen, pantry]
Currently beavers eat by going to a warehouse and drink by going to a water barrel. That's fine when they're just getting started, but don't you think they'd eventually like somewhere nicer to eat?
A dining hall (or beaver equivalent) would be a mid/late game luxury building. Mechanically, it would:
* Store small amounts of food and drink.
* Allow beavers to satisfy both hunger and thirst at the same time. (Efficiency!)
Optionally:
* Allow beavers to proactively eat and drink during downtime instead of waiting until they're hungry. To make this not waste tons of food it either needs fractional food tracking (internally) or it needs to stack satiation.
* Allow beavers to eat a mixed meal of multiple food types (if that's relevant; I think right now it's not).
* Satisfy a need. Social makes sense thematically, but then the other social buildings are probably obsolete. Maybe a new food-related need like "cooking"? Or change the other buildings, if that's feasible.

Thaina YuAgree on all. And it might satisfied fun needed too

Maybe also need a worker for cook and gather stock/material -

Space MonkeyI agree with this as well
2
Make it need a fuel source and worker(s) to function. One worker to function and two or more for increased efficiency Have it meet all food and water needs it can be supplied with as well as some of the downtime needs (social, comfort) -

Just have it add a small amount while they're there eating. Then the others can still be used to really boost it. -

A different Kevin"Just have it add a small amount [of social satisfaction] while they're there eating."
Agreed. Not nearly as much as hanging around the campfire for the same amount of time, but a non-zero value nonetheless. -

LaceyDawnI called it a Community Kitchen in my suggestion. I like Dining Hall much better! A Manager Beaver gathers prepared foods and Beavers come here to eat. An upgraded version could have a Chef who prepares specialty foods (soup which is carrots, & potatoes but as more food is added more options can be added) while the Manager gathers food prepared elsewhere (bread, grilled potatoes, + new stuff) and brings it to the Dining Hall. A Pantry building can be used to store larger amounts for the Dining Hall. A Grocery to store singular items like berries, carrots, potatoes, etc that haven't been processes vs them being in the same warehouse as raw building materials.

Dennis MergedA place where beavers deliver farm produce, food items, logs and water to produce a wide variety of dishes. It can only store ingredients but the dishes produced help to satisfy hunger and may even provide aesthetics. It requires metal to be built.
1
Other possible food items to include: apples from apple trees (apple trees can serve as both a food source and a source of logs), corn (corn can be grilled and even be processed for corn oil), leafy greens such as lettuce and cabbages, herbs and mushrooms

AllexyGalaxyI'm currently building my own Dining Halls next to each housing block by putting only food into a small storage with a certain roof decoration reserved for only dinding halls. But I'd LOVE a way to make use of the berries - as soon as farming is available my beavers ignore them completely. I'd love an opton for elevated cuisine with berry pies for the later game!

Yappy1188I've just read all comments. Very interesting. However, all fail to link these new food sources, dishes and facility to the food ranking system already in place, that is berries=0, carrots=1, baked potatoes=2, bread=3. News foods should add more levels. New dishes, too but of a higher order perhaps or on an entirely new, if dependant, 'line' of satisfaction.
1
Additionally, a 'Dining Hall' ought to be the preferred storage facility for all food types. I particularly liked Denis' suggestion.
Bonifying berries once agriculture has begun is a wonderful idea. Throwing in the satisfaction of a small amount of Social need makes perfect sense. -

Bryan WenzelI think if they introduced a mess hall that it'd need to be staffed by beaver "cooks", and the number of beavers staffing it would determine how many beavers can be "fed/satisfied" at a time. The beaver cooks can only handle serving so many patrons at once!!
This balances the mechanic of requiring separate trips for food and water per day and may assist in internally storing fraction food values (like the bakery, etc are able to store fractional wood values). -

Steve Meschke MergedSeems odd that there is no way to give the beavers a dedicated place to access food and water. Also could be expanded to an Inn for long travels.

Gin Fuyou Admin MergedWell, there is already a number of suggestion for restaurant or kitchen or whatever, I may merge it later.
Personally I think tavern term is more fitting for the setting. Also it's a perfect candidate for new solid building which we lack. -

Joe de Lange MergedFirst off, i have now played through all of the content for the normal beavers, and i freakin' love it. Thanks to Angory Tom from the Yogs for introducing me to the game.

Now!
Beavers currently grab the resources they want directly from warehouses (food, books), and drink directly from water reservoirs or pumps. but what about canteens and schools or libraries to keep those pesky juveniles out from under the grown-up beavers' feet while life goes on.
the food and drink distribution could be tied to campfires and rooftop terraces or even a little food cart that works kind of like the berry pickers/ wood choppers, where they would employ a beaver that takes food and drink to workers in the field limited by an area of effect radius, or maybe some combination of the two systems?
other features i'd like are already under consideration as far as i could tell. -

AfterCrow MergedNew building: Cafeteria. Build it directly in contact with a grill and/or bakery and it stores up to 75 of each finished resource. (Number subject to change).
Beavers visit the cafeteria during free-time to get "social life" bonus + foods.
Haulers can stock the cafeteria with carrots. -

Koko MergedA Tavern or something like that, that just accept food and is needed for beavers to eat. It should have a maximum capacity for beavers (like the fireplace).
It could have something like 25 of everything can be stored in the building and it will have a job like a "barkeeper"(that restocks the food in the building).
It would be nice because then we dont need to build storages everywhere and every morning the beavers will not just run to the storages to eat.
I must say it looks funny, BUT 100 beavers in one storage just for them to eat is too much at dawn. XDD -

Beaver Barista MergedA 2x3 square leisure building where beavers can recharge on happiness and grab a snack.
Consumes: Maple pastries and water (or even better, creates blueberry smoothies so you have another use for all those berries).

Vas MergedI'd like to see a snack stand that would have a supply of edibles, sorta like a market place. With an optional dedicated laborer who will keep it fully stocked. This would allow you to place them far out on the edges of a district, in order to feed beavers that need food then, instead of them having to walk all the way back to a storage unit to get their preferred food. This stand would have a default storage of every edible food, while allowing you to restrict or change the values.
Unlike Storage, it should not allow being over filled by any type of food. It does not get seen as a storage by beavers, so it cannot be filled by beavers working farms or berry picking. This small 1x1 building could store 10 of each food type, while a 2x2 version could store 50 of each type.
Ultimately, this is just to help reduce hunger effects of beavers working out by the edges of a base with long routes back to base. -

Mark TaylorA 1-2 square mini-storage that works just for food and cosmetically looked like a 'food truck' (cart) would be neat. If you had food-stalls of a few different colors you could create a colorful market place (that doubles as both a small storage area AND gives a small social bonus as well).

Vincent MergedInstead of beavers getting their rations from a warehouse, they'd dine at a canteen. haulers and canteen workers would keep it stocked with whatever food items are selected. If there isn't even seating or food at a canteen, a beaver goes to the warehouses (like now), but lose a happiness bonus.

ISAWHIM MergedTo reduce the number of annoying trips for beavers and make better use of benches and chill-spots and other vanity items... As well as to compact storage and expand materials use. We need things like canteens to hold a nice buffer of water, which can be refilled at the nearest "small barrel only". Lunch-boxes, to hold a days rations, picked-up at warehouses or a new "lunch-wagon spot". Items like soups and sandwiches, made from multiple items, for the same gains as individual items, but they obviously consume less warehouse-space than 3-4 individual items.
Being more late-game, the items will help reduce much of the running around, and will increase productivity and leisure time. Since they can actually stop for a bite, instead of run across town for a bite or a drink. -

Nick Piers MergedHow about a place for beavers to congregate and have meals together? It could have a large storage for food. Right now, beavers just go to whatever warehouse for meal time, but what if they had a place to sit, eat, and chat? They could get some small social bonuses in doing so. Maybe have a few employment spots, and the workers could fill their own food stat at the end of their shift?
You could also have different levels for different sizes. Picnic tables for a group of four, a tent for maybe 10-15, and a big mess hall for 25-30. I think the picnic tables or tents would be cute, actually. -

Sir Frederic MergedThe idea is to create a building (there is already an idea in the forum to create a kitchen, dining room or restaurant) where beavers can be placed to create a food ration that combines all the nutritional foods, which would allow that with one of these rations can satisfy all bars of need.
The recipe would be one unit of each of the 8 foods to create 8 rations.
The recipe will need logs for fuel, as well as the building, electricity to run.
Beavers will always prefer to eat this ration, even if they don't need complete nutrition.
The building will be advanced, it will cause injured beavers.
The names of this food should be different for each faction, the names in the title are a suggestion, the nutri-ration would be something typical of iron teeth.
pros:
-easy nutrition.
-easy transportation and nutrition to other districts.
cons:
-More work and consumption of resources.
-favorite food
-chanse of causing injuries -

Drew MergedAlready built what I have in mind and I want to reach the highest goal as possible. Also, Im just having fun building monuments and stacked buildings. But, it's kinda boring now since not a lot of new stuff.
Add some campaign or something like a goal. Like build a high temple, a mall or a skyscraper. A big dam
What cool about timber born is the verticality of the buildings, Dams and water dynamics but you can add cartwheels, pushcarts, tunnels, elevators, pipelines, and additional monuments unique to the faction.
Please also add shifting so to even out the use of parks and recreational beings. I want to make place lively even at night and morning. -

PFCParisThe storage update effectively made this possible in the game. I use a series of small warehouses which pull resources from others to create food courts. Add roofs and it is pretty much a restaurant. Store books and it is like a library. The storage update was a great call from the devs.

Jcheung Adminnot really. this would allow easy mode players the ability to get all food buffs, for one. it's also fewer entities, which reduces pathfinding

Tommy WestbrookHow about to make it useful in the early game and the late game (aside from having a smaller version and a bigger version) it gives a tiny boost to social and/or just the fact that all the food types and water are easily accessible in the same building. Then the building could also craft a higher-level food item from multiple others if not every one of the other foods.
I think either faction would fit for a hearty stew, and it could restore thirst as well as hunger since water would be the base. You've got your grilled potatoes to be mashed up to make the stew creamy or just diced up with the vegetables, crackers, chesnuts, and sunflower seeds to add a crunch, grilled spadderdock and carrots make up the bulk of it, bread on the side, berries and maple pasty for dessert I guess since they're the only things that don't directly fit. Dandelions can go in the soup too for an added boost. -
11 May, '23
OrinocoSure, maybe this suggestion is not the same as what PFCParis mentioned. But after the storage update, I think the added value from this is lot less. IMO there are better things to work on.
