Building dimensions in building descriptions (footprint size), construction preview, space tiles
Only minor but when I was attempting to plan an where future buildings would go I couldn't tell how large the buildings I had not yet researched would be for road planning etc.
Something like 2x4 tiles on the description would be handy.

A Caesar Salad MergedJust a small description of the dimensions of the buildings when you hover over it in the selection. Right now I have no clue what the building looks like or how it might fit into my beaver society unless I actually click on it. But if it isn't researched I have absolutely no clue which is annoying when I'm trying to decide what to spend my research points on. It would be a small but really nice Quality of Life change

desred3Maybe also show a preview of the building when the research window pops up.

Gin Fuyou AdminI've adjusted title for better navigation, since "diameter" is not quite the word I believe. But I totally support the suggestion.

BenWhoLikesBeerI don't know if these comments affect the search, but I was looking for "building outline before researched". I would move the "Do you want to spend science points / you don't have enough science points" dialog until after the player tries to place the building. Simplest solution :)

David C BollingerI prefer letting you highlight and preview it as well, that would probably be the simplest and easiest solution, in my opinion.

TetrygonIt would be nice to see the footprint of the building in the menu, similar to how roofs are displayed. It would also be nice to "ghost" the building for planning.

AlcaztrulYes! Would very much want this feature. Also if it would be possible to see the footprint before the building has been unlocked with science points!

Phoenix MergedIt'd be great to be able to know what the grid size of a new building will be (especially one which you haven't researched). e.g. 2x3 like how some decorations have or display a small grid of 2 by 3 boxes in the tool-tip . It's good to know what the size of different buildings will be so you can plan ahead.
Obviously once it's researched you can just have a look, but if you've got limited science and deciding on what you want to do next it would help. E.g. you might not have room for the carousel and should've gone for the printing press. -

Gannonite MergedIt's really great to have the footprint of the roof pieces shown in the icon. It would really help me plan out my city in the early game if I could see this for every building, or at least get to test the position (ie. it stays red and you can't actually place it until you unlock). Currently, if I haven't unlocked it with the science points I can't see how much space it will take, which made for some highly disappointing moments on my first play-thru. I feel like this would make things more approachable.

Earth Dragonthis absolutely needs to happen!! When you are looking at things to "invent" and you have a plot of land, there is nothing worse then using your points for something like a temple just to find out it's bigger or smaller then you thought it might be, and your urban planning is now all messed up, the picture helps a little, but there is just so many things that can actually be different from the picture.
Included should be be what floor the access point is at. Even the picture shows ground floor entry into the larger housing buildings, but go to build them and you quickly notice that there is a second floor entrance. Again, this can really mess up what you had been planning when you just based what size and how you thought the building might be placed on a misleading picture. -

Brakji MergedIt would be nice when hovering over a building option in the menu, if the pop-up gave a mini-block version of the building, especially for ones not yet researched, to help with city layout planning.
This is a pretty minor ask, so I understand if, even if approved, it could take a bit. -

Eccentric WarmongerHaving some type of tool that allows me to measure empty blocks/spaces would be amazing! This would help me plan for future buildings. If I knew a building was 2 x 6 and my measuring tool said I have 2 x 11, I'd know that I can't put two buildings next to each other.

tibbakoiI'd argue that knowing where the door is going to be is as important as knowing the footprint, so having the "do you want to unlock" after attempting to place would be preferable.

james MergedIn the beginning of the game most of the buildings have not been opened and as a result you can not see there dimensions. How about adding a little 4 X 2 or perhaps a ghost image of the building. Yes my spacial memory sucks. Thank you if a real live human being read this.

YeeYeon MergedIt'd be better if I could check the size of the buildings from the menu, even before unlock it. e.g. 1*1, 2*2, 2*3, 3*3. Then it would be much helpful for planning the city.

TAs an alternative and perhaps easier to implement suggestion; the roofs have their size in their info. Its strange all the other buildings do not have this. Even better if one of the blocks is another color to show us where the door is.

PB MergedApologies if this has already been posted, but my three suggestions:
- Show the size of a building (2x3) in the building description, so that you can plan ahead.
- Have an easy copy paste mechanic when a building is selected.
- Deleting paths doesn't require confirmation like deleting buildings.
Loving the game! -

Jcheung Adminthe third dimension is a bit difficult, since a single building can easily have 3 heights regularly

David MergedPretty simple. Buildings like the bridges, platforms, roofs and floodgates have little squares next to them showing their size and profile. This would be nice to have on all buildings so you know if they're 2X2 or 2X3.

Peter HazlewoodYes! This is a big one for me, particularly for buildings that you haven't yet unlocked with Science Points. It would be great to have a footprint shape and size indicator on all buildings (plus indication of foorway).
-
28 Sep, '22
NifegunThis has been done in other games and it can be done quite simply and graphically. Next to the little cartoon icon of the building, add a graphic of the footprint of the building. You can even have an indicator for the doorway. you render a grid with its tiles filled in. for example
FT lodge:
##
##>
FT mirror Lodge:
##>
##
Number Cruncher:
. ##
####
####
. ##
etc. but obvs, use actual little squares, not ascii lol Also the . are just cause this forum strips leading whitespace. -

Cal MergedA small note that shows the size of a building in the menus so you know how much space to prepare, for example the Hauling Post is 3x2, or the Inventor is 2x2. Could be added next to the notes that show how many workers or how much power is needed.

Grim MergedI would like to be able to see the actual size of blueprints, like 3x3 or 4x5 in the info window. As a new player this is quite a steep learning curve and often leads to frustration, because I do not know all the sizes of the buildings yet. One would be able to make a better plan for road access, power shafts, bridges, access to high rising buildings and other fun stuff. The "trial and error" should be in the game mechanics (beating droughts etc.), not the building mechanics itself.
-

CallieWanted to add - doing it similar to the roofs would help a ton! Maybe some sort of UI indicator that shows where they need to be submerged in water, like for the mechanical water pump and the lido

Talãooo MergedIt would be great if there was a structure design preview button before spending research points, as I don't know how big it will be and how it will be housed in my project. And sometimes I don't even know what it does and by previewing it I can get an idea and make the best use of my research spending.
