Faction Idea: Floodwalkers (water-living and flood-loving beavers)
Floodwalkers are a faction of beavers that cherish the protection and plenty provided by rivers and lakes; they are dam-builders and draw comfort from knowing that they have water beneath them.
Floodwalkers are all about playing in water, or just above it. Their unique housing is able to be built on depth-1 water and gains an additional sleep/comfort bonus for doing so.
Possibly, they treat depth 1+ water as paths for the purposes of travel, and can dive into water directly (and possibly from two or three levels up, depending on the depth of the water?) or climb out of the water directly without needing stairs.
They also have a unique crop; rice. Rice is a potato equivalent unique to the Floodwalkers and grows faster when flooded in rice paddies; this is achieved by flooding the crops up to 1 depth and keeping it flooded. Floodwalkers can also build the special 'hydroponics platform', which is a single platform that can have crops planted on top and uses the water below it.

This is unlikely to happen with game current path-finding mechanics.

Vinny PTrue, it is the same basic idea... hmm. I'll come up with more unique buildings/mechanics after I've gotten some sleep.
