Need for more 'solid' building types - variety of solid roof constructions
Building upward is amazing. It's fun, it's pretty, and it's one of the things that can help set this game apart from a lot of similar builders.
The short of the issue is that you primarily only stack housing right now (some storage buildings but you probably want those low to the ground). Anyway it's primarily housing. And since you want to balance your population with the number of jobs (more or less) there just isn't a realistic case for building very large structures. With the size limits of a district you have to work hard to pack in the job sites in order to accommodate one fairly-large skyscraper of a housing unit. If you want it to be very big, or if you want to build more than one you simply won't be able to employee everyone and the extra housing you're piling into the big structure is essentially wasted.
More buildings that can be stacked would be fantastic, please. Pretty please!
[maybe things that should go near housing like alternate social/fun buildings?]

kyu Mergedi love building on top of other building and finding clever pathways around. i just wish there were more options than house or storage for a base.

Thaina Yu MergedI would also want that, every factory should be partly solid. Like a carousel that only have 3 solid block. All factory should have 2-3 solid roof block and so we could easily make a complex building. Have factory as an extension to a house stack

David C Bollinger Mergedmaybe have late game metal trusses in different sizes that can be built over buildings the way platforms are built over paths.

also, can we please build platforms over some of the 1x1 buildings, like the various flags, and the benches? I want to be able to add benches into the lower layers of my towers, and to build over my gatherers and loggers. -

Gin Fuyou AdminI strongly agree, let's think more about what buildings could be add to solid structures?
My earlier idea was https://timberborn.featureupvote.com/suggestions/198333/modular-storage-concept-for-expanding-single-storage-building-capacity#comment315253 for expanding it for warehouses.
Also I think we could add dummy blocks for filling spaces - a combination of a platform and a levee, which doesn't stop water, is not passable but can be placed anywhere.
Some new factories could have partially solid roofs, for example a brewery - it could have a chimney and a brewing tank on it's side and main building having a solid roof. -

David C BollingerI'd like to see all the factories have an upgrade where you can add a metal frame around them with a wood deck that converts them into solid buildings. This would allow for much better vertical integration of buildings.

axleThey should add a structure that is usable by all beaver factions that can create a frame over the top of most non-solid buildings. Limiting it to only factories wouldn't change much. It would add more for the metal to be used for, and would allow more vertical building.

Yukke MergedThe reason I was attracted to Timberborn was that this game allowed me to create a three-dimensional city. But for now, Stackable Facilities are limited to Houses and Storages. There is some inconvenience and it lacks fun.
I want more stackable versions of existing facilities. Of course, there are some that are not suitable. Grills and bakeries may not be suitable as they require a chimney. The water storage tank is not in one room of the building either. On the other hand, Builders Hat, Hauling Post, and Farm House are really just offices and waiting areas, so a Stackable version should be fine.
Of course, a mere Stackable version is too advantageous, so you may give it a disadvantage in shape and volume. -

Jbutt MergedI so wish we could research more stackable versions of existing buildings like builders hut or hauler's depot or even powered buildings like lumber mills and things. I just love stacking things and making vertical settlements, it's such a fun mechanic but only being able to stack housing and storage seems to miss out on so much fun. Keep all the existing unstackable buildings, but simply add "solid" versions that require research and are more expensive due to the beefed up structures.

Draythix MergedBig upvote for this. Creating 3d cities is one of the most interesting parts of timberborn, and I would love it if there were things that could be stacked aside from housing and storage.
Perhaps there could be researchable alternate versions of certain basic buildings which are stackable, such as builder huts, haulers, and distribution posts. Just make them require rarer materials so that players have to make a choice when deciding what to build. -

Draythix MergedAnother comment: Right now the Folktails have a disadvantage when it comes to solid buildings. They only have houses and storage, while the ironteeth also have industrial lumber. However, Folktail's 'end game' storage isn't stackable, so in a way they only have one stackable building: houses. It would be nice if they got a unique stackable building of their own.

Altayr Neto MergedAdd more stackable buildings, in order to make a more diverse city not just with houses and storages being able to be stackable. You can add new buildings, like schools, markets, library, restaurants, museums to make a city feels more natural and alive!

DanielI agree but it should be partly faction dependent. For the folktails I think the buildings make sense as they are now but the iron teeth should have more stackable factory buildings.

RaemonI like the idea of partially stackable buildings that you can connect like a puzzle to generate enough surface area for the second tier.

pug Mergeda platform that an be used to act as a roof for building that are not solid add debuff for beaver above building that creates smoke and stuff like that but there are a lot of buildings that are not solid and building up is bad on small map

randoomedMaybe adding a bridge like structure which is solid could work for this.
or maybe an overhang which can be build on the side of other solid structures (like some inverse stairs).
Pros:
- it allows for more 3d towns.
- none solid building still require effort to work around, especially if they are 3 wide (requiring two layers to fully build over.
cons:
- functionality overlaps with the metal platform, and would probably simply replace it in most cases.
- town might look strange with a single wooden ground support, growing as it goes higher
Some potential restrictions which could promote towns to increase techs
- support limits, like can only take the weight of x blocks or buildings above it, metal and treated wood could unlock higher strength overhangs
- overhang limits on platforms, allowing only x sideways tile expansion from the supporting platform (a metal platform could have a higher limit) -

no thank you MergedPossibly add a faction where most top everything is solid. this would encourage a very tall and more importantly extremely tall and very populus districts. this would add the ability to build on top of stairs which on the current setting are impossible.

Epyque FayleI agree with @David C Bollinger: since we have the 1x1 platforms in 1,2,&3 heights, it would be nice to have 2x2 and 3x3 as well, maybe larger...oh...or can they be dragged larger during placement, merged during future construction? My current storage area leaves 4 "empty" 3x3 spaces that I would love to be able to put Large liquid storage in (or underground storage), but then I couldn't put a second or third story over it. my current plan is 2 stories of large warehouse, and the third story for fluid containers
