Sand!.. Its problems and the many goodies it brings
Whenever water flows downhill it could create sand deposits in areas where water flows slower.
This means that the lower a reservoir or simmilar structure in elevation the quicker it accumulates sand.
Sand will need to be scooped out so the river can flow unimpeeded.
sand can also be flushed out of the map
it can either be dumped, used to build "soft terrain" wich erodes in contact with water but can be used as farmland and building foundation or.... used to produce glass
Glass can enable beavers to learn chemisty, create windows, greenhouses and building upgrades!
Big glass windows for homes, colorfull windows for the temple and LOTS of Decorations!
Additionally beavers could sift through the sand to find gold.
it can be used for crafting, decorations or maybe clockwork!

Kenneth FerlandRiver bottom material is a good idea as well as silting up of bodies of water, but I'd made the bottom material more often Gravel, Mud or Clay with a brick/pottery/masonry production branch, each material also has a different rate of settling out as water slows. Sand could be found in rivers as well in the deserts and would have inherently lower mouisture retention, making expansion of the farming zone farther from the river harder.
