Display Surface measures: dimension size of crop field (show area), length of road or dam, ruler
Add measurements when placing any item that are draggable. For example, when placing crops it will show a grid measurement on the UI like 10x10 or 6x7.

Thomas MergedOther games have little counters on the screen that show how long a road is when you're clicking and dragging, pretty cool quality of life thing.

Solner MergedSome additional suggestions on how I might implement this...
When clicking the cursor icon on the bottom of the toolbar, it could populate a submenu where you can select the selection tool, a area ruler tool, or a volume ruler tool something as follows (may be nice to add a double-click of cursor icon toolbar where it selects the default: selection tool):
Selection Tool: same as implemented
Area Ruler Tool: allows user to right-click a square and toggle a fixed point where the final position of the cursor highlights and counts the length + width of the distance of squares ... now, I've yet to create a farm that's rectangular, so perhaps add a left-click option to toggle the permanency of the selection (allowing new selections).
Volume Ruler Tool: this tool highlights a given volume based on the cube under the cursor where A) the top of cube is the uppermost volume, and B) all exposed (including water) cubes are counted, similar left-click toggling may be useful as described above. -

Combak MergedWhile I know the map editor is pretty bare bones right now, I think these two tools would be very useful. The ruler is pretty self-explanatory. The player clicks on one spot, then on another, and the ruler makes a line (or two, if it has to go diagonally) and outputs the number of tiles between the two points, ideally broken down into x and y. This helps with figuring how far the player's initial base will be able to reach. The Resource Counter is even simpler. Drag the mouse over an area to highlight it, and the counter will tell you how many resources are in an area. That way, you can get an idea if the map is survivable.

Ryvre MergedOther similar options: a grid square info option that provides coordinates (like SimCity), show horizontal lines when placing an item (like Project Hospital).

Gannonite MergedI'd really love to just have a UI tool that let's me put down a ruler across the terrain and measure how many squares from point a to point b, both horizontally and vertically. Currently I just pick a path or some levees and lay it down to measure the distance of a gap, which feels like a kludge/ unnecessary.

Harrison Fjord MergedIt would be cool if we could invest in a new science building that allowed us to measure distances, length of road between buildings (including unfinished), Surface area, water volumes, etc.
This would be very useful for planning and evaluating efficiency.
The reason this should be a science building is to make the starting user-interface less intimidating for new users. -

Dealdenfaire MergedMaybe it could be practical to show, when you draw a zone, the lenght and wide. For example : If I draw a carotte field, I would like to know how tall it is like 5*4.
(Sorry if I'm not clear, but I'm not English). -

Wojtek MergedA tool that would allow to easily and quickly measure distance, height difference and surface. Also a tooltip that shows how many tiles are being designated when plotting a farm would be most welcome. I've spent a lot of time on counting things manually.

Lewis Neville MergedSorry if this has been asked before.
When placing plant crops/orchards commands a tooltip to show showing the grid number e.g. 10x7.
Just something I love from other games.
Thanks,

OptimalScrub MergedA QoL player tool that lets you click and drag a temporary overlay over tiles to quickly count the width/length/area that is selected. The label/text could be anchored to the mouse cursor.
and/or include a width/length/area tooltip when using the Demolition and Construction tools. -

Tobias Merged1. An area measuring tool, and some way to measure distance. I often want to count squares, but have to do it manually which is annoying. If I want to have X amount of squares for carrots, it would be nice to just have the computer calculate the area I choose rather than needing to do it myself. Maybe, if you press "M" you'll get some kind of square counting tool.

Notbeaver MergedWhen planting crops or trees, the number of tiles you are placing could be shown somewhere in the UI.
This can be helpful when planning your plantations along ridges or rivers, or when you removed your chestnut for maple trees, and only found out you missed one of them one cycle later.
One example would be adding a number beside the cursor (attached image) -

Jamie CI like the grid view options that Captain of Industry uses. A toggle to display or hide the Grid somewhere on the screen would be nice.

Hakureimarisa MergedDrag out a looooong road and have trouble about how long it is? Yes you can check the number in the brackets to know AFTER you finished, but that means if you're coming for a well-planned length, you have to drag, click and check the number, delete the excess building plans. What if you can know how long when you're still pressing on your mouse?
Also when you drag out your carrot farm, you'll wanna know how many tiles it has to calculate how many beavers it can support. If Timberborn can count it then you won't need to count it yourself. -

Bach MergedPlease tell me if any of the below features are available but I just didn't know where to look.
Dimension of selected tiles (width:length, maybe even height)? Number of selected tiles (some tiles cannot be selected, occupied by something else)? Number of materials used (not the refund, the original amount)? Number of occupied jobs and open jobs? Power usage?
To be fair, I only care about the first one, for when planning farms and roads. I rarely have to count more than 10, but still it would save a lot of time to know the exact size of my farms and roads. -

Mike MergedFirst off, I love this game! As with anything it could absolutely be better.
Counting distance manually in this game sucks. Lets say I want a road grid that's 13 open spaces then a road and repeat (15 squared total). It is arduous and frustrating. A tool that's just a colored box or line that I could drag and place that has the measurements listed would be great. Just visible in construction view. Also when dragging to build a road, farms, tree planting, dynamite laying, etc...should list the number of blocks covered when you are dragging it as well. This would be a massive QOL update for me. The more data you guys add to this game the better the game will be! -

DangNerd MergedMostly covered in the title but to slightly elaborate:
Elevation - when clicking on a tile/block; it should show elevation so you can quickly check heights across a gap your trying to dam or bridge for example. similarly if you click a Levee, stairs, platforms etc it should show the max height of that "asset".
Oh also if we could see water level as a unit somehow vs visually guessing by lining up the camera.
Distance as "Unit" (1U, 45U) - building a path to count distance of something you want to build is tedious. Instead, when clicking and dragging a path, length of levees, power, platforms, etc. you see the total unit length instead of having to manually count. -
