Multi-start (starting spawn locations) feature for Map Editor
If there is even the slightest chance this game will have co-operative multiplayer, it would be nice if the game allowed us to place multiple start locations on each map. (Primary, secondary and tertiary).
This could allow the community to create multiplayer-friendly maps before the release of the actual multiplayer feature.

Zam! AdminNot a bad idea. Adding multiple start locations to a map could also allow having different starting locations for easy, medium and hard difficulty and so on. There is a lot of potential with that functionality :)

Vas MergedI'd like to be able to place multiple start locations on a map, and name each start location so that the player can pick the start location when starting the map (Or leave the start location set to random).
This would let us upload maps that have multiple start locations without having to upload the same map, multiple times, an example being Bim River, which has two versions uploaded of the same map, with two different start locations.
Naming the start locations would give map makers a way to say "Lake side start" "flood plains start", or "Northwest" "Southeast", or even naming multiple starts as the same thing to have the game randomly choose one of those when that option is selected. If a start is named "Random" then it isn't an option to choose, and if all starts are named Random, then the player has only "random" to choose which will randomly select a start.
In my case, I've been working on a map, which has three start locations in it, and I'd like it to be completely rand -

Juraj MergedI'd like to start several independent settlements in parallel, there's plenty of space on larger maps.

Skira MergedHaving multiple different starting points on the bigger maps could add some variety when starting new saves.
The way I could see this working is that you get a map preview in the selection screen and a list of possible starting points to choose from, if available for that map.
The game could also pick one of the points at random, but for people who want a specific spot it'd just mean making and deleting saves until that one comes up, so that could be just tedious and frustrating.
Also these starting points could be awarded in either a scenario mode (if that's to come) or for exploring the map on other saves. Imagine there being a ruin or flag pole at a new place and getting there unlocks it. Would add incentive to explore more. -

DrumminAlso working your way Up or Down a map has a different play style when there are trees on levels making your way down more difficult. I've been really enjoying playing a map I made where the start position is near the top but was thinking this would play completely different if the start position was near the bottom of the map. Having the optional starting positions highlighted on a map overview would be a great way for the user to select their start position.

Scott MergedWith the size of the map, it is possible to create several start locations on one map, greatly increasing the playability of each map. Additionally, having different stary locations for IronTeeth and Folktails, would help with map customization, favoring strengths of both.
I submitted a mod map, with this in mind. (Sunken Cities) -

sneak Mergedlow-value add, but still kinda cool; make it an map-creator option to have beavers start without the district center (atm its free anyway for those who don't know) and walking in from the side of the map--or flying in like they were launched from the earth repopulator.
probably should be able to be toggled off in the player's menu tho (not by default tho, it'd be cool the first time at minimum; I don't care how boring you are!)
the former being something intended for "conventional starts", but the latter being for when the map designer wants to give the player flexibility in where they start.
the flying-in option might be a bit weird if the player is folktails; but its plausible that there are neighboring towns and they work together no?
