Birch Bark Resource
Birch trees are currently the least productive trees and also have no bonus resource (experimental branch has bonus resources for all other trees).
I suggest adding a Birch Bark resource that can be harvested from these trees.
Birch bark can be ground into flour to make beaver-food items and/or used in waterproofing roofs and similar constructions. Perhaps an improved windmill or waterwheel would require this resource?

FuryoftheStarsWasn’t birch bark also an early paper resource?

Gin Fuyou AdminYes, it was widely used in Medieval Rus' for writing. It's also very good fire starting material for a campfire or a torch.

CamasiaI like this idea, instead of paper being produced from wood, it could be produced from birch bark. However birch doesn't regrow bark. So forest-plants, time-grows, gatherer collects bark, lumberjack cuts tree (you still get wood, but very little), and paper mill produces paper.
This wouldn't require any new buildings (same forester and paper mill as before), gives a mid-game use for birch, and a new use for gatherers. And unlike maples, chestnut, and pine that regrow their resource, birch must be cut and replanted each time, but they regrow quickly. And early game players won't bother collecting bark from birch anyway, so no added complexity -

Shark Goblin MergedI notice that all trees in the game except the Birch Tree have a secondary resource. Syrup for Maple, Chestnuts for Chestnut, and Resin for Pine. Birch grows fastest, giving one log per tree. But when Birch grows in 9 days for one log and Pine grows in 12 days for 2, Birch Trees aren't even appealing as a quick growing tree. Certain Native American tribes used the thin bark of Birch trees to make parchment-like objects for painting or writing. Adding Birch Bark to the game for this purpose would give Birch a niche the other trees lack while bringing it more in line with the pattern shown by the other trees. It would also correct one slight nuisance: With so much competing for logs in this game, using logs to generate paper almost always falls into the low-priority category.
