Slow start - lack of wood
In the tutorial section I have cut off all the starting trees, until I have got the option to even unlock the Forester. From that point on, it took 9 days of doing nothing until I could continue my game, since I had absolutely nothing to do in the early game without wood. Bit demotivating. Please ensure in the beginning that the game does not get blocked by a lack of trees (at least in the tutorial!). Either more trees to start with, or allow forester for less science points.

SkiraHad the same happen to me on quite a few hard mode attempts. Getting to the forester is tough as it needs science points to unlock and planks to build. The problem is in the resources needed to produce planks, that again rely on having enough wood to begin with, which you also need for a lot of other things.
Suggestions to help with this:
Make the forester cheaper (maybe all logs), but limit it's functions in the beginning. Having the trees replanted is essential, being able to plant anywhere and getting different tree types could be later unlocks through science and/or finding each tree type.
Alternatively it would help if the lumber mill could work (very slowly) without power as spending 40 or 50 more logs on a power source is a tough ask that early. Or have a slow but cheap alternative to the mill without needing power.
Maybe it could also be enough to make the trees regrow more frequently, just so you don't completely run out of logs before getting the forester. -

Jcheung Adminfor your last point, they regrow plenty fast. you need to leave fully grown trees alive for them to spread naturally though.

FailedbeaverThat information would have been great to have whilst doing the tutorial. Like many, I too ran out of logs. But now I realise that it was because I cut them down too fast so they would not regrow.
Perhaps add that as a small tip for beginners so they do not waste their first game?
