Trees regulate moisture level on ground tiles, plants propagate irrigation
Strategizing your building and farming plans, a more bound to nature approach, should be advantageous and rewarding. To achieve this, I suggest including trees into the moisture level calculation of nearby ground tiles.
1. reduce watering radius of water tiles (canal) drastically, maybe from 15 to 4.
2. if trees are planted near water sources and fully grown, they will spend shade and increase the moisture holding capacity of nearby ground tiles and therefore “drag” water inland. A row of trees could give an additional 5 tiles radius of watered ground, 9 in total. Leave a gap for a road, plant a second row of trees and increase the usable area even further.
Nicely placed decorative trees are not just eye candy, but actually important for the wellbeing of a beaver.
To improve the implementation of trees even further, I would also propose to implement a "bound to nature" Bonus, if beavers work, sleep, or recreate near trees.
Addendum:
3. irrigation tower will bypass the 3 tile limit

Tweelicht MergedPlants in nature will conserve water in the soil, it would be super cool to have that feature in this game. That way you can use the forest to conserve your water.
A super function would be rain created by the forest, a bonus function of a big forest on the map. -

cc MergedI would love it if you could permanently or semi-permanently keep land irrigated, for example by planting trees while you're adding water to the environment with a pump or dam. The tree roots would hold the water in the soil for longer making your area more resilient to drought.
Related but not really the same: It would be cool if you could (in this way or another) 'beat' the droughts over time; planting more trees retains more water and soil, so water upstream (beyond the map probably) could sit around longer. -
