2 suggestions for water control
1. A passive(or active) water filter. Any water that passes through it will be filtered. A passive water filter may block the badwater but allow the normal water to go through. The active water filter may extract the badwater and turn it into the item or it may turn all of the liquid going into it into normal water.
2. A water check valve. (this is adding onto another suggestion) This will be useful in the early game on some maps before you have advanced irrigation setups, etc. This can passively prevent water from backflowing through it, negating the need for managing floodgates in certain circumstances.

Jcheung Adminif you want your suggestions to get votes and not just be feedback, they need to be one topic per thread.
re: 2. i can't see any place where this would have a different outcome than a normal dam, and no places where it could possibly reduce the need for floodgates -

TakI wrote the same suggestion, but somehow it wasn't approved by admin.
I think we need very expensive, late-game filtering floodgate which only lets in the fluid of your choice. -
