Experimental: Max Speed setting kills framerate on large maps
I'm getting massive frame rate drops when on max speed settings, on a new town before building anything. FPS counter ends up at 1. Only seems to happen on 256x256 maps, haven't tried a larger town.
I haven't played for a few months, but before now, I could run huge maps with hundreds of beavers without any noticeable frame rate drops.
I've tested both default (current release) and experimental, and the performance issue only happens on experimental. I've sent logs but can't see anything interesting at all - haven't attached saves as I just started a new town (settings were hard, issue encountered on Craters and Plains, potentially other 256x256).
PC Stats:
OS: Arch LInux
GPU: AMD ATI Radeon RX 6900 XT
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 5950X (32) @ 3.400GHz
Memory: 32GB
Proton: 9 (or at least the default, potentially using GE 7.14)

I've been able to improve this by turning off SMT. Now I can play on max speed for a bit (a cycle or so), at which point it will suddenly slow dramatically as before, updating the screen once every few seconds. I can hit space to pause for a couple of seconds, and on hitting space again the game proceeds as per normal for a while. So the game is playable on max speed by making sure to pause frequently, with SMT off.
