Return science and input materials into the mine
The recent change in the U7 experimental branch not only removes science generation from the mines, it makes metal too easy to obtain and kills the utility of treated planks and gears.
Regarding the science generation option, it's nice to have the head canon that there are not only astronomer beavers staring at the sun all day, but geologist beavers studying rocks and such underground. It was a nice feature and is missed.
Making 5 scrap metal per cycle with no input resources in an infinite metal source oversimplifies the production chain in the mid to late game. From being an industrial chain involving lumber jacks, gear makes, pine resin harvesters and treated plank makers feeding the mine and then into the smelter, it is now basically an infinite metal ruin with 10 scavengers. Pine resin and treated planks are now basically useless investments and metal too easy to obtain. The challenge has gone.
Please revert to the recipes as at the original U7 release to experimental.

Grey KyliaI feel the same way. I know the game is "supposed" to be more of a casual experience but its way too easy to get metal now.
Personally I never bothered with the science in the mines because it costs 4k to get access, its only 50% better, and requires 2.5x the beavers. They might even get injured in there since its a mine but idk since I dont use it. Plus to get to 4k science you'll already have an observatory so there doesn't seem much of a point of it even being there BUT if you need it and don't have power, somehow, then I guess its a good option.
I think a mid ground would be acceptable between what we had before and what we have now. Just have 3 recipes and have it be no materials for 1 or 2 scrap, a recipe for 5 scrap that they now want requiring a gear and treated plank, and the third for science (FT) or double scrap amount (IT). That way you can still have free scraps if you're in a bad spot but are rewarded for making extra gears and planks for the scrap like we are used to.
