Expanded pump mechanics and pipelines, water pipes
Make it possible for pumps to be driven by a waterweel or other powersource instead of worker, and add pipelines that can be attached to pumps so you could pump water upwards to an elevated reservoir, directly into water tanks or to irrigation towers. Adding pipelines to the pump imput could allow for more flexibility and make it so you don't need a pump on every level.
I think this will allow for more creativity in water management, wich i find the most fun part about the game.

Ben LamotheA system for distributing water across a large colony up a hill or just to automate water supplies would be great.

Thaina YuI agree on pipe and in conjunction with water building mechanic I proposing here, we could make a reservoir battery

On the other hand. Maybe powered pump might be another building that require research. A smaller pump that need no worker -

Zam!Pipelines IMO should require either advanced metal or bamboo to make - something end game to make them feel like a game changer, not just a skip of having to set up tanks and pumps around the place. I prefer an aqueduct as a cheaper mid-game solution and pipes as an end-game overkill option, or maybe just an advanced version of aqueduct only available to techy IronTeeth beavers.

NathanWater discharge building is kind of dumb and too slow. Why do I need it, beavers could just toss buckets of water!
-

KhaimStrongly agree. This game really needs pipes. It's not just timberpunk, it's waterpunk too!
-
17 Sep, '21
DeBeeRDont really see the need for pipes (aquaduct's will do the trick), although a way to elevate water on a square would be nais without using the 'stupid' water discharge pump.
-
19 Sep, '21
beaverbroPipes/Aquaducts would make it easier to irrigate lands far away from rivers or water sources, or make sure the water supply is well-distributed across the colony. But it prolly also circumvents the purpose of dynamite (since you can create water reservoirs with it) so there's some gameplay balance to consider here. Maybe they should connect only to watertanks or the irrigation tower & require regular maintainance or something

JoshIf we could get mechanically driven pumps as a technology then It'd be nice to have log pipes accessible early game, perhaps upgradable to closed metal pipes to cut down on evaporation loss later on?

Hojo Kamono Mergedit would be nice too see pipping in the game. along with fishing.

JasonAlternatively, heavier duty water pumps. They would have a footprint smaller than three water pumps, but require two or three beavers to operate and pump the equivalent of three/four/whatever pumps worth of water.
-

Arthur NiculitcheffWhile I think powered pumps and leaves on platforms for aqueducts would be a good addition, but I'm afraid pipes would end up making a lot of water manipulation through terrain less relevant.

KrufarWater Tower:
Water from your waterpipes cant be pumped up higher then your highest placed water reservoir that's connected to your network. So the big water tank can be attached to piping, and whenyou place it on top of some buildings you get a pressure you can use to reach equal heights. -

mmekI think there are two different issues:
1- (Drinking) Water Pumps/filtration: it'd be good if there was a "larger" version of them, powered or not, powered by manual labour or not. Maybe it could employ larger numbers of beavers (4? 6?), be a 2 height 2x3 or even 3x3 building or something of the sort, with a higher storage capacity to lower the downtime waiting for haulers to take the water away from the pump storage. That'd make it more of an later game thing, like the large water reservoirs; I think even then they'd have to have some beavers overseeing the process.
Since lorewise the water is unsafe for the beavers to drink, it makes sense that they need to pump/filter it before drinking, but it doesen't make as much sense that the water dump uses drinkable water to transfer it to a higher level. Which takes us to the second issue: water lifting. -
03 Oct, '21
mmek2- Water lifting: this is a different issue, since raising large volumes of water is hard work; IIRC that's the reason why throughout history aqueducts relied on gravity and/or sources of water high up to be fed. So imho water lifting mechanisms would need to be a combination of labour intensive, material intensive (paper, iron blocks, etc.) and energy intensive. Othterwise it'd be trivial to manage water.
I suggested once on the forums a shaduf, which is a simple way of lifting water from the source up to irrigation canals. There are also norias, and, more interesingly, foot-powered water wheels found in Japan (search for 足踏み水車). these lift the water just a tad higher (1/2 a meter maybe?),just enough so it reaches the irrigation canal.
We could have 3 "tiers" of water lifting mechanisms, a slow-small-cheap shaduf, a scaled-up foot-powered water wheel, and a endgame noria, able to lift water higer (maybe 2-3h) and faster but taking equally impressive ammounts of power. -

Abhinav MehrotraThis is exactly what we need. Upvoted the suggestion.
This is what I wrote in another forum. Pipes + pumped hydro power storage. Hell yeah.
Please introduce a powered water pump with water pipes to create artificial water bodies like lakes, waterfall, pumped hydro storage etc.
One can use extra power during wet season to pump water to a higher reservoir and then use all that stored potential energy during dry season.
Also introduce automation based on the depth gauge we already have in game. So one can open sluice gates, stop pumps if water level gets low. Automation for power would also or river flow would also be nice. When the water level is low or river flow has dried we can open pumped hydro sluice gates to release water for power or irrigation.
A moisture sensor would also be nice. A storage sensor is also a must-have, we can stop production automatically after certain amount is in inventory. -

MaxI think there's room for 3 different types of pipes-
wooden, unpowered pipes that allow you to build over the normal water level, but cannot handle high pressures or be pumped uphill. These would essentially provide the function of aqua ducts.
Then there could be high pressure metal pipes that could be built to pump water uphill, allowing irrigation without the need of manual water dumps. These could also be built through the base of dams to allow you to make use of the full reservoir.
And finally, hydroelectric turbine pipes, also at the base of the dam that allow you to generate power by letting water through, but very expensive to research, build, and set up.
I believe this thread and the aqua duct thread should be merged. -

Bernard GPipes is for me a good idea but I seen not only for transport. My proposition is to discorver different elevation by science, pipes with holes (for irigation with a different area if elevated) and blinded pipe to end a route.
Excuse my poor english, I hope that I've been clear. -

Austan MergedIt would be great to be able to hook water tanks or water pumps up to irrigation towers or water dumps. It would be really cool to create aqueducts to make artifical rivers, or just build an aqueduct so the beavers don't have to keep hauling water to every irrigation tower or dump.
-

Paniktoni MergedA possibility should be available, to automate the transport from the waterpump to the big water tank, it would be nice to have pipelines or acqueducts carrying the water
-

Colin MergedIt would be nice to see a few more options. What exists is fantastic already, but there are some things that I feel are missing. An automatic powered pump, or an aqueduct/pipes, would be really nice. These could be used to create a different faction. In general the gameplay feels a lot just like, unlock science points, build dams. Which is super fun. But a few different options to differentiate one game from another would be fun.

ZoLatKamImho, like many others here, I think the addition of an Archimedes Screw for uphill and/or vertical water transportation is a great idea!
Instead of making it require power, it could require a worker, as that's how the aforementioned device worked centuries ago.
A rough idea would be to have a small station (perhaps with a 2x2 footprint) that must be built next to the water and then require various pieces (1x1, 1x2, 1x3, 1x4) to be attached to any of the sides not facing the water.
The aforementioned pieces could be produced in the Gear Workshop. -

Kage MergedA simple idea really, but add the ability to connect a water pump directly to one or more water dumps (similar to how power is distributed) or storage tanks. It would remove the ability to distribute water from the pump normally, but would also remove the need for a worker on the receiving end. Attach it to a lower grid, and gain the ability to fill a reservoir from the outside automatically (requires worker to monitor)
