The ability to change keybinding is both critically important and often dismissed as trivial. In reality, being able to customize a default keybinding goes beyond personal preference and extends to Accessibility.
Above, Calixtus asks, "as a left hander can we please have custom key binds", and talks about wanting to bind to the keypad. Some people (most probably right handed) might argue that left handed people can just use it the way it is, so it's fine. It's not "fine." Using your non-dominant hand is awkward is best; try it. Left vs right handedness is not the only issue.
Not all the world is QWERTY likewise not all the world is W-A-S-D. While a QWERTZ user is unaffected by Timberborn's current bindings, a AZERTY user or, like myself, a Dvorak user ( [QWERTY] == [',.pyf] ), is immediately and profoundly impacted.
Even the subideal option to edit a configuration file, is better than no option at all.
*Inaccessible* design hides in plain sight because we don't think about it. -

Jason BergmanI just posted this suggestion before I saw this one. But yes, we spend way to much time going through icons and menus for simple things like adding/removing a path just give path a hotkey of "p" or something. Planting trees, planting crops, building houses. all could be done with a keystroke rather than scrolling back and forth between all the menus.

Felipe MergedCould be a step phase, like:
Press B -> Open a menu with the two different options ( Actions {blue icons} and Buildings {green icons})
-- Then, if 1 pressed, open Actions {blue icons}
-- -- Then, if 1 pressed, open the Cut Tree action
-- -- Else, if 2 pressed, open the Plant Crop action
And so one...
Examples:
To build a simple house (the one that costs 12 lumber), the key order would be:
B -> 2 -> 5 -> 1
To Priority Selector, Top Priority:
B-> 1 -> 5 -> 5
To build a farm:
B -> 2 -> 7 -> 2
I know that there are 14 options to buildings, but you can work arround it with sub menus, like, agregating the last used ones, for instance the last 4 ones... -

MuppetRatI would specifically like to rebind the Rotate Building keys to MB3&4 pls. That would put all my controls onto the mouse (freeing my other hand to fuss puppas :-D )

DawnI would really love to see a shortcut for pause/unpause of building. For example if there is low water i always turn of the water pumps. All the clicking if you have some pumps is really bothering. Another option could be to "group" these buildings togehter somehow... Thanks for the great game!

All building/action categories should have a customizable hotkey, as well as all buildings/actions in that category. -

Bruce Anderson MergedTo assist with speedy and clever gameplay:
1. Cycle Through Play Speed (3 levels - Normal, Fast, Fastest) - Alt+Space
--Reason: Speed and Convenience
2. Cycle Through Menu Choices (like under Wood,: Lumberjack Flag, Lumber Mill, Forester, etc) - Tab
--Reason: Speed and Convenience. It would be great if I could click the water, wood, and other tabs then his "Tab" to quickly
highlight and select paths, flags, etc
3. Quick Top Down Camera Snap - X
--Reason: You've assigned z and c for rotating 90 degrees. Another key for snapping the camera to a top down view at the level of zoom the player is already at would be helpful. r
4. Paths Hot Key - R
--Reason: If there is one item I am constantly going back to...its paths. A hot key would make gameplay progress more smoothly and quickly.

Zack Kinnaman Mergedoops caps. I like the game a lot. Maybe add a keybind system for the different building tabs, or a keybind system for the most commonly used buildings and what not. Or a customizable hot keybind system.
Another feature that would be nice is to see what task each individual beaver is doing. Like where they are carrying wood to and from or if they are socializing and what not. Thanks, good game. bye -

ZeirlynnYes please allow full customization of all keybindings. Having your push-to-talk key spin your camera view, for example, is game breaking.

David WhittakerAnother lefty here. I almost returned the game for lack of this key feature. I'd like to be able to swap mouse buttons so I don't have to click with my middle finger, move with ijkl, and map the remaining actions to the right side of the keyboard.

Usain_Colt MergedMy laptop has an issue where my "r" key will not register as being pressed any longer. In most cases, I can remap the function to a different key. I love playing this game; I have put quite a few hours in so far, but I have to use an external keyboard just to play.

TI'm on my keyboard *a lot*. The de-facto WASD layout for games drives me nuts. Custom key bindings has got to be the simplest thing to implement in software, yet often seems to be the bottom of priorities for pre-release games. Yes, UI is non-trivial, but I'm sure many of us could live with editing a config file during beta and I'm sure you've got a handle on template strings for tutorial text and tooltips.
I have refunded this because I consider games with hard-coded WASD bindings to be unplayable. I love the type of game you've built, but it's outweighed by my inexhaustible hatred of forced WASD key layouts. -

MichaelCame here to say hot keys for paths. I'm always looking to get paths and I feel like it's an endless frustration be unable to just hotkey to it.

ClaytonHIn addition to changing the current keybindings (e.g. remapping pause from P to something you can type with your fingers on WASD), plenty of other tools could use hotkeys as well.

TylerI would also like to see a key binding for setting building priorities... It is really annoying to click on each structure and then have to click on each level of priority when I am wanting like 50 dynamite items to be prioritized over other things.

Tannaid MergedI play a lot with my hands on the keyboard. So it would be nice to have some of the building options with shortcuts, like 'Housing' is bound to the 'H' key, 'Food' to the 'F' key. And maybe they could be adjusted by the player if they feel more comfortable with other key binds.

Mikael MergedYou should be able to assign hot keys to your own prefered settings. Especially the Pause Button P is very annoyingly set on P because it's very far from wasd for the camera.

Andara MergedI often find myself building a certain thing multiple times over a long period, for example placing platforms and paths, or levees, or dynamite and stairs.
It would be nice to maybe hover over the dynamite symbol, press CTRL+1 and each time you now press 1, the dynamite would automatically be selected (or path/stairs etc.) -

MartinCustomizing the standard keys is a feature that is more or less required in any building game. In this case I instinctly tried to rotate buildings using E and Q.
