Woodpeckers
I want woodpeckers. Idk what they're good for but the games color pallet needs something red, the beavers need some kind of pet for splash art and marketing, and woodpeckers fit the timberpunk theme perfectly (they even have MOHAWKS). Messengers? Traders? Alarm clocks? Idk I want woodpeckers.

Gin Fuyou AdminOh, yeah, it's a great idea, woodpecker sounds will also nicely spice up audio experience, the only problem they will be a bit too small for game scale, and probably will have to peck only on withered trees.

warbrand2Actually this would work well with an idea I had earlier.

Specifically the nested trees.
woodpeckers would be a nest bird seen in some trees, during the day they fly around the map as a small red headed low detail bird hitting logs and making noise as they search for bugs. During the night they nest in their trees, giving a good amount of color.
Leaving a woodpecker tree would also be advisable as it could give some bonus like the tree they live in has a higher spread rate then others or something like that.
Woodpeckers would also make good messengers, with a mail center that you can make that can help organize all districts in some way. -

Hawkeightmaybe they could be an extra challenge in certain factions, like locusts to a farm, they could come swarming in and ruin patches of trees, then you'd have to build some sort of bird repellent to keep them away. Then after loads of research, you could cage them and keep them as pets?

Gin Fuyou AdminShouldn't they help with preserving trees instead? I believe woodpeckers eat insects that infest dry or damaged trees?

warbrand2Yep woodpeckers would be something you want, they would allow the trees to grow healthier. Which would likely translate into 1 or 2 more lumber depending on the tree, and a slightly faster grow time.
They could be the bees for trees, cost a slot to improve an area. -

doomvaderThey could be a faction because the do "work" with wood. And i think some species of woodpeckers are born in timber so you could say they are *drum roll*
