New food, recipes and production chains - suggest YOURS here!
I don't think it's very constructive to have a separate threads for each recipe, so let's collect all ideas for devs (or modders) to pick from here!
I propose using a short format and explaining in detail below, if needed.
Example:
(acorn tree) acorns > (grill) roasted acorns > (grist mill) acorn powder + water + maple syrup > (cafe) acorn coffee.

Vinny P MergedDistilleries can make vodka or other alcohols from potatoes and wheat.

Beavers have increased happiness when they have access to alcohol.
Some might slip into the river but that just gets them sober faster. :P -

LaceyDawn MergedA Beekeeper maintains the beehives & collets honey; care is especially important after land is flooded or during a drought (brings water to the hives during a drought or bees die/stop working).
1
Honey & berries make jam in a Bakery. Jam is eaten w bread & satisfies a higher level happiness vs a single food item. Honey, flour, & carrots to make a carrot cake for + happiness, made in Bakery.
A Community Kitchen gathers made food (bread, jam, cake, grilled potatoes, whatever else is PREPARED). It fills a social need, provides higher level nutrition , & is more logical than bread being stored in a warehouse w scrap metal, planks, etc. A division of goods so to say. You could have a Chef that cooks certain foods and a Shopper who gathers resources from a food storage (Grocery) vs a building materials warehouse
Rice is grown in lightly flooded fields. Carrots, potatoes, & rice make soup. A Potter collects river silt to make bowls, plates, which is needed to serve food in the Com. Kitchen -

Gin Fuyou Admin MergedThere are separate suggestions for more foods and food serving, it should be better commenting under those I think...
> A Potter collects river silt to make bowls
I believe that's not how potter works, unless you mean H.J. Potter ? -
29 Sep, '21
LaceyDawn Mergedhaha. I was rushing. The idea should be that a Potter can collect clay from the river as a resource and turn it into pottery which is needed to serve more advanced foods, like bowls for soup.

Michael Rowe MergedI had the exact same idea for improving beehives: https://timberborn.featureupvote.com/suggestions/213941/winter-prep-nutrition-improved-beehives-sugarcane-glass-kiln. I like the idea of a community kitchen, but since the food is actually cooked somewhere else maybe it could be a diner or some sort of mess hall?

Tearlach MergedI would love to be able to grow more food varietes. Orchards would be nice, take a long time before they start giving fruit but once they've gotten there they'll provide regularly. Apples, bananas, pears and cherries are just some variations that could be introduced. Yield and durability could be things that set them apart. Bananas could be vulnerable to fungal infections for an example, and if struck you'd have to chop down your orchard?
1
I'd like for our humble potato to change, perhaps take a lot more time to harvest but give a greater yield. Either that, or give it higher tolerances so it can grow where other crops would not. Something to signal that it was the crop that saved europe from starvation. Yams and beetroots could be introduced to give some variation here. Yields, growth times and drought resistance could set them apart? A little boring, perhaps someone else have some better suggestions.
More to come... -

Tearlach MergedMore cereals would not be amiss, reusing the wheat assets and just slightly recolour them is probably good enough. Which is a bonus! Cheap additions are still value. Another building chain to turn the produce into gruel, as an alternative to berries, or to give us a way to tune the amount of labour/power and how much food comes out it.
1
Carrots should honestly be sorted into the same category as the potato. Should still be edible straight out of the ground though. Fruits as the third food category?
More perennials like the blueberry bushes maybe? A juicer to turn either 2 berries into 1 drink or 1 berry and 1 water into 1 drink that gives bonuses? Also tomatoes, rhubarbs, artichokes and kale.
Almonds to make almond milk, that can be combined with bananas and cherries/blueberries to make another food item? Almond trees needs humongous amounts of water obviously.
Sugarcane so we can make woodchip cookies! Wheat, sugar and a tiny amount of log.
More to come... -

RanWithAPlanSugar cane can only be grown adjacent to water.
Sugar cane + syrup (gristmill) = sugar. sugar grants no effects but completely replenishes all of the beavers hunger. -

RanWithAPlanBaobad trees: baobab trees take 50 days to mature and when cut down will give 10 logs, but logs aren't what make baobabs useful. Every hourthe baobab is on fertile soil, it will add 1 water to its storage. A baobab's storage can only be accessed by tappers, but even then the tapper's can't add anything to the baoabab's storage. The baobab is 2x2.

antonFlower + berries + honey = blueberry pie
+100500 votes for draniki!
We need smetana (flavor for borsch and draniki). It is made of mink. This means we need animals (kapibara, buggalo or something ele with milk) and clover.
Snackbox - five different foods + 1 plank = 5 or more snackboxes. A snackbox is a meal of several dishes in a box that gives all the dish bufs when eaten. Snackbox helps to sapre time to get all the food buffs. Made in the kitchen.
Smartbox - snackbox + book = also gives knowledge and fun.
carrot + berries + water = juice Kds who drink juice get a permanent strength bonus when they grow up. -

sunyudaiNew Crop: Reeds
A slow growing aquatic crop, Reeds don't contribute much to food production, however they serve a variety of purposes:
1. Roof Decor and some buildings could use Reeds as a construction material (Those with thatched roofing?)
2. Recipe: Reeds + Berries -> Berry Basket Dessert (You make the joke in the flavor text, why not add it to the game?) - a basic food item that offers no nutrition buffs/morale, but is more filling than berries alone.
3. Alternative paper recipe that consumes reeds instead of wood. Less space efficient in that reeds yield less paper per tile per day than maple trees do, but also allows you to decouple paper from wood. -

sunyudaiNew Structure: Juicer
This 2x2x2 Solid late-game food building requires a fair amount of power to operate, as well as both metal and treated planks to build.
Recipes:
1. Berry Juice: 2 Berries + 2 Water -> 3 Berry Juice. Berry Juice Offers no nutrition buffs, but restores both thirst and hunger when consumed. (Like berries, beavers will consume other foods first, but a hungry or thirsty beaver that can't find food or water will find Berry Juice.)
2. Carrot Juice: 2 Carrots + 2 water -> 3 Carrot Juice. Carrot Juice Offers a new nutrition buff:
On Kits: Life expectancy (+10%)
On Adults: Walking Speed (+20%) -

sunyudaiNew Production Line: Fuel Pellets
Since logs are both construction material and fuel large building projects can result in beavers not making food/materials.
An easy fix to this would be to produce fuel out of logs, which keeps the gameplay mechanic of "logs are fundamental" while allowing players to keep dedicated fuel reserves.
Fuel Pellets replace logs in all "burn logs as fuel" recipes.
New Structures:
Both Tribes: [Pellet Chewer] - 2x2, ground-only, no research cost, cheap structure (~6 logs to build?) This simple spot consists of a bench, a pile of logs, and a basket.
- 2 logs -> 3 Fuel Pellets, 2 hours.
Folk Tales: [Pellet Mill] - a 2x3x2 solid mid-tier structure, the Pellet Press automates the wood-chewing process.
- 2 logs -> 3 fuel pellets, .66 hours, 60 HP
Ironteeth: [Pellet Press] - 3x3x2 solid mid/late tier structure the Pellet Press turns logs to fuel in large batches somewhat less efficiently.
- 10 logs -> 13 fuel pellets, 1 hour, 100 HP -

kiwibirdI think the game needs more complex production chains in general. The new food recipes with the aquatic plants and maple syrup are great, but they're still very simple. I'd love to see a three or four step transformation, as it gives more goals to an endgame. Also, more variety is always nice in my opinion.
The underground mining addition was great, as it uses more complex inputs and gives us something to build towards to. We need more of that in my opinion. I love the game and want to keep playing, but I'm feel like there's not much to be done after a few runs, as you get to the "late game" very quickly.
Some recipes above introduce new ingredients like tomatoes, or beets, but I don't think adding those would fix this issue bc they're just basic ingredients, and what the game is lacking is a more complex production chain. -
14 Jan, '22
kiwibirdhere's some ideas:
paper production now needs logs and water
add a kiln to make coal from logs and then make the industries use coal instead of logs as fuel
instead of maple pastries, make them maple toasts, so they use bread instead of flour // alternatively, add berry jam and make a berry jam toast instead.
add a school building, that requires books as "fuel" and make the kits grow faster
add a silo building to store wheat, maybe ironteeth only (?) -

Jexadox Mergedhmm. can i suggest a few like apples, applewood, and a use for maybe apple seed muffins?
radish ( a 4d grow root vegetable, to be served raw or in a "salad" that needs grilled chestnuts, radishes, and something like cattails?, to be made in a "garden mixer" building.
or just add a leafy green like kale, lettuce, or something cool like arugula (its like lettuce.), that they won't eat alone but only in a salad. -
17 Mar, '22
MKDRecipes with existing crops and buildings:
1. Cattail > Gristmill > Cattail Flour > Cattail Flour + Blueberry > Bakery > Blueberry Muffin (Call it Gluten-free Muffin if you want to be funny).
2. Carrot > Grill > Grilled Carrot
3. Carrot + Wheat Flour > Bakery > Carrot Cake
4. Potato + Wheat Flour > Bakery > Potato Pancake
5. Potato + Carrot > Bakery > Casserole
Adding more recipes would probably mean the devs would need to change how food options are scored under Nutrition for the population wellbeing; it's already kind of strangely weighted. -

Murphy MergedAll the other foods get to be used in making more complex dishes. Why not berries? I feel like once other food options become viable, berries aren't useful anymore, which is a shame because they're very pretty and have an entire job dedicated to picking them.
Toast with jam could be made in the bakeries, for instance. -

Loki MergedSo my Idea whould be to add some kind of upgraded Grill, maybe the name could be Kitchen or Industrial Grill? This building whould be able to produce complex foods like vegetable stew, which requires Potatos, Carrots, Chestnuts and Water for example.
I imagine it could be something late-game to either add another buff to your beever, or fill the need for all of the named ingredients. Example: Vegetable stew needs Potatos, Carrots, Chestnuts and Water, so it fills the need of Potatos, Carrots, Chestnuts and Water, but for an extended time. -

PocketBever MergedMaybe with a high berry:wheat ratio, like: 6 blueberries + 1 wheat = 4 blueberry muffins
This gives the blueberries a usefulness so that you can reduce the number of berries in storage without throwing them away. Plus what beavers don't like more breakfast options? -

Mir MergedHi, I think that brewery has been suggested few times here. I have some recipes (low-alcoholic):

2. Honey beer = honey + wheat + water (timber as fuel)
Roots collected from trees and water plants, honey from beehive. -

Childish youth Merged1.I think the types of plants and the food made from them are a little less, maybe one crop can make different kinds of food, not too many, such as two or three. For example, wheat flour can make noodles, pancake except bread. And perhaps different crops and food can mixed into high-grade food.
2.And I have a strange question about bees. Why I can't obtain honey from bees.At first,I think the collectors can collect them but I am surprised when I fuond this game have no honey.
3.I think the management interface of beavers can be subdivided. It is convenient if I can see different age stages, the beavers over 50 can classified as elders and I can see them just like the children.
4.Maybe this game can have some Animal Husbandry?
That's all.English is not my mother tongue, some descriptions may sound strange and I'm sorry about that. Finally,Thank you for providing such a wonderful game and I believe this game will have a bright future. -

PeterI find for myself that is too easy grow all food for 85 beavers. Me suggestion is increase grow time. Or add some plant what need grow at least 30 days, so it have grow in dry season as well. And this plant die after 1 days with out water. It should by increase difficulty. Or at least this plant should by for beavers satisfaction.
Sorry if I'm wrong . I have 45 hour game time on plain map. -

-

HORRIOR MergedBlueberries are the earliest food source in the game, but they do not have much use afterwards.
Iron teeth use them for making more kits, but for these purposes you only need a 6x6 patch of them for a very large colony.
On the other hand, you have bakeries that are able to make the end game food source, Maple Pastries, from maple syrup and wheat.
So, why not Blueberry pastries as well? -

landyn holcomb Mergedyou can add a salad food item that you can make in a new food mixing station, you can make the salad by mixing a little of every food type, and it will add points all around to the food well being score.
