Add a sunlight mechanic for plants growth, trees need sun light to grow
With the daily cycle, the game is just begging for the inclusion of sunlight. This could range from a complex model where sunlight is modeled hourly, a simple check of whether a block is vertically covered, a model of viewshed obstruction, or set blocks to shade one horizontal for every three or four vertical.
Currently, you can cover your entire farmland with metal platforms and crops grow fine. That makes no sense. Reduce the growth rate of crops/trees under metal platforms or prevent them entirely.
Sunlight would also allow the balancing of crops and trees by shade tolerance and the inclusion of low-light crops (e.g., mushrooms). Pine trees could, for example, be more shade tolerant than maples, giving you a reason to grow them late game in shady areas.
While sun helps farms, shade could have the benefit of reducing evaporation or beaver thirst.
End result would be a more interesting and varied map that gives the player more strategic choices in using the landscape.
Thx!

lolsz Mergedadd a requirement so that sunlight and water is a requirement and that if a plant does not receive enough sunlight or water it would start dieing

RDF MergedI watched @ZeddTheBuilder from Youtube titled "3D water physics and more - Timberborn Update 6 brings big changes" as I was learning about the Update 6. I have noticed that he suggested that you can cover crops and trees with the new Overhangs and Platforms @ around 3:30 of his video. Well I thought that was unrealistic unless you have a source of light under. So my suggestion would be to either implement a buildable light source or have the crops wither when not directly hit by sunlight.
Thank you and Best of Luck Devs. Ill be supporting you till the end -

Dr Chen MergedSuggestions for the scientific aspects of the game: The 3D terrain system is exciting! However, the game allows players to build underground farmlands, and I would suggest adding buildings like "lights," "mirrors," or even "fiber optics" to the game. As underground farmlands need light to function.

Bucy MergedPlease consider having sunlight be important to plant growth, and adding powered lighting to keep some challenge in the verticality game. So that when we are building vertical farms it isn't trivial to do so.

perromikito MergedThe game is very good, I loved what they focused on, one idea I suggest is to put the sun in an update as part of obtaining energy and life from different plants or trees and that there is an eclipse every cycle (like the Aguamala or the droughts)
