Retaining Wall (aka vertical impermeable floor), single wide narrow aqueducts
ELaborating on "Different types of soil" suggestion, which wound require retaining walls to hold walls of dumped material in place, the retaining walls could also act as levee WITHOUT TAKING AN ENTIRE BLOCK. This would, most importantly, allow aqueducts to be just one unit wide instead of minimum three as on now (those aqueducts look honestly quite cumbersome, so much mass to transport so little water), but they would come with their limits, too.
standalone retaining wall made of wood or iron could only be 1 unit high, but would be built by the edge of the block and thus allow construction next to it. So you could have water touching a house or anything provided there is a retaining wall inbetween (effectively acting like vertical impermeable floor)
Other use, as already described, would to allow to stack loose dirt into walls, as opposed to rock, which stays in place without support.

Impermeable floors allow power and tubeways through them. If Impermeable walls did the same thing, they would be incredibly useful. Currently having to go up(or down) and over(or under) to create an impermeable floor instead of an impermeable wall is ... annoying. -

Modhunter42While I see many uses for this, they are basically just space saving 2D levees.
I would use them for 'wave-guides' around pumps in lakes to reduce waves, where 3D levees don't really work. -

Gin Fuyou AdminI think another big point here is that they just look better for aqueducts. A screencap of mod here would be welcome

SankyIf this can be place on the side of lodge, than we can submerge half of the 2 storey lodge into water, also lodge can be used as dam.

FuzzThis would be handy for running power shafts and tubeways through dams etc while still keeping the system watertight.
At present, this can be done vertically (with the floors) but not horizontally. -

Hans van WierenWith the upcoming update 7 tubes, i suggest to have an impermeable wall to snap on the solid tubeway. With this you can tube in and out of the watertanks / lakes without having to go over or under them.

deejay4am MergedThe Impermeable Floor should be able to be build as a panel along the sides of the metal overhangs (without taking up the block space; the same as they behave as a floor). This would allow construction of pipes and reservoirs more easily.
It makes sense for beavers that have figured out metalworking that they'd be able to weld up these panels to the sides of things, especially if they're already doing so to the tops of things (and running power shafts through, to boot!) -

Jonas SickingSome use cases that this would enable:
* Placing a overhang in a dam wall or a water tower wall. Then place an impermeable wall on it to seal up the wall. Now you have a platform to build on
* Pass a tubeway or a power shaft into a dam
* Pass a underground tubeway or power shaft through a river without having the river leak into the tunnel as that incurs an evaporation cost
* Separate two different water channels in a smaller space. For example one carrying badwater, and one carrying clean water.
* Run a vertical power shaft into the bottom of a Mechanical Fluid Pump without having water leak into the power shaft tunnel -

Maya MergedI am unsure what to call these but in the image from update 6 we see these super pretty water-transportation canal-like things. They're only one block thin and supported by a few platforms, and I would love to have something like this in the game, if only for decoration!! Making aqueducts and similar is of course possible but a bit clunky and requires at least three width. Having some smaller option to say just fill some tiny holes and up the farm space or to just add to the vibe of this game would be superfun. They don't have to transport a lot :))

Gin Fuyou Admin MergedI'm confused where you see it 1-block wide, it looks to be drawn to quite match actual aqueducts that was made possible.
Anyway I'm merging it to related suggestion -

CharlieAn additional advantage to impermeable walls - if they can snap on to the legs of overhangs, it would be much more compact to build vertical water columns (off sources/badwater discharges).
E.g. Currently Badwater discharge requires a 5x5 vertical column, unless you "cut in" with fully enclosed overhangs which increase the base footprint to 6x6 but can get down to 3x3 at +5 levels up. With impermeable walls you could have 1 layer of 5x5 levees, 1 layer of overhangs (8x 2x1 or 4x 3x1 etc) with impermeable walls on the inside, and you've got a really compact water column. You can also do the reverse, easily expanding the column at the top to bring it to match aqueduct width -

Dienstbier MergedI would love to have more components for diverting water, or water inlets and outlets.
A block and dam that are hollow inside to direct water to specific locations.
Similar to the energy conduits, but only for water.
When you divert water with the existing components, you always need a lot of space to create the waterway with earth blocks.
I would also like to have walls that are impermeable and can be attached like plates, but on the sides and not on top.
I would also like to be able to place an earth block with a crack in it that allows water to flow through, like a dam, but with the crack running vertically instead of horizontally.
It would be great if you could regulate the flow rate. -

NacoranEven if they had to be placed against another wall or structure they'd be really useful. They could let you make that underneath part of a platform waterproof, or make a side of a building waterproof.

QodvuxImpermeable walls (i.e. vertical impermeable floors) would be a great and all-to-logical addition. Why would beavers be able to build them on horizontal but not vertical surfaces? Many use cases have been described here – having horizontal power transmission without water leakage would be my favorite. And since they don't block contamination, they would not be a cheap way around contamination barriers or other ways of dealing with badtides.
I do think impermeable walls (that mount to already-existing objects) should be distinguished as a suggestion from stand-alone/"2D" walls. I don't want those, and they would feel out of place. Aqueducts are very kludgy right now and I would welcome more elegant solutions, but not by building single platforms with free-standing impermeable walls above them. Dedicated pipes or water channels (modular and with some volume/flow reductions) would be a better solution for that. -

Apilaci MergedGreat game guys , keep up the good work :)
Since water is such an important part of this game , water pipes 1 block wide would be interesting.
Right now you need either (levies + platforms) or (Terrain Blocks) to enclose water to make it go anywhere under pressure that is 5 blocks to enclose it instead of a dedicated block.
Also relating to water management a sealed power shaft would be interesting allowing power to be transmitted thru dam walls instead of having to go all the way up then all the way down. -

Behrhunter MergedA barrier that seals a tubeway or power shaft when entering a water chamber. This allows for underground sealed irrigation canals that wont drain your reservoir, especially on shallow maps.
