A Marker That Penetrates Visible Layers, Used for Marking Tunnel Paths, digging guide lines
When using the tunnel digging tool, I find it difficult to accurately locate where my planned tunnel should be when adjusting the visible layers to observe the underground terrain. I hope to have a marker that can be placed anywhere on the surface (preferably overlapping with buildings). In this way, even when switching visible layers, the marker can still be seen underground, allowing me to accurately determine where to dig the tunnel.

I posted earlier about how tunnels should 'cast shadows' 1~2 fields so, if you want to connect tunnels, you can orient yourself easier.
HOWEVER... - a problem I forgot about was; what if there is no tunnel above to orient yourself with?
You want to build a tunnel network to water your fields 2 layers deep (as not to destroy soil and have ugly paths)...? Tricky.
If we had the option to build 'beacons'. 1x1 items that 'mark all tiles underneath' (like a water source would), you could set up 2-3 fix points and work off those!
Easy as pie. Those 'beacons' could be wooden rods driven into the earth. Perhaps POLISHED WOOD is being used. 1 wood per layer depth. 5 deep. 5 wood.
I think that sounds fair for a niche, yet rather important use case. -

DuncanI came to ask for almost the same thing. I'm digging some tunnels and a cave system and want to know where on the next layer up my tunnels currently exist. At the moment I do this by carefully positioning the screen and holding my finger on the map, then using the other hand to change the layer and place a component, then flick up-down until I'm somewhat confident they are in the correct place. It's annoying and not all that fun.
A simple marker that penetrates the entire vertical height would be great - using the same system as the watersources would be super. -

Fizzle MergedI think this is a well-known issue...
You want to build a tunnel A... and meet with tunnel B, which happens to be on a different layer, forming a sort of downhill aqueduct.
You CANNOT SEE if you are in the right place without wild SCROLLING UP AND DOWN THE LAYERS. Tunnels above or below your current layer are invisible.
I think they should cast a 50% smaller "shadow" 1 level beneath. And a 25% smaller "shadow" 2 levels beneath. [if in 'building mode']
You can see, similar to a mine or spring, 'ah- there is something above me~' and orient yourself easily.
Now all you have to do is align your tunnel with this shadow and dig 1~2 fields up, and voila!
I think that is a fairly elegant and easy-to-implement solution. -
