More beaver Animations, immersive visuals, idle activity
Have not played alot yet but I feel that all the beaver actions feel quiet stale. Some animations like using an axe when cutting down trees would be nice, for example. Also, building animations/progress etc.

Talile MergedWhen I made books I was hoping to see them sat on benches reading them but instead they kinda just go into the storehouse and consume them. Would be cool if they took them somewhere and sat a bit.
Theres a few other similar places where a little bit of animation would make the beavers feel so much more alive. Like if when they sat together in terraces and campfires they took turns snuffling their snouts a little as if conversing instead of just staring into space. -

Old Resort MergedOn that note, maybe have benches slightly increase the amount of Knowledge a book fills. Compared to reading it while sitting on the ground. (So, reduce base value a book gives and require modifiers for it to fill to 100% like a bench, or some kind of decorative area value that decorative items could give.)
And as they eat it, also have it fill the Hunger Bar, maybe 1/3rd or 1/4th of how much one food would.
[BUG] Also don't allow kits to read/eat books -

RayneI agree, honestly, when I first played this game, I was disappointed with the beavers chopping down trees and removing obstacles in a weird pantomime. It would be great if they used their teeth and tails.

Bruno Barrera MergedI think the visual experience would be much more rewarding if certain details were added to the character models and structures. For example, since we are playing with beavers, it seemed a bit strange to me that instead of "gnawing" the trees they simply limited themselves to interacting with them just like they do with the structures under construction. The same for the other tasks, there could be small animations where the beavers perform actions more consistent with the tasks, such as gnawing trees, digging and harvesting plantations, etc. Another aspect of the characters that is missing from other similar games is that the appearance of the beavers changes depending on the work they are doing, I understand that you want to maintain a "natural" aspect within the artistic section, but I think they could be added small details to distinguish the "inventors" from the "builders" such as belts of equipment, or small additions of clothing.

Jeremy Snyder MergedGreat game! I get the sense of engineering in it, which is a game right up my alley. What I did find lacking thus far in my short play time, is that I would have liked to have seen more character animations. Slightly more detail to the beavers, perhaps something that might match their job description, which in turn would provide an easy solution for players to identify what beaver does what as they walk about and could click on the beaver to switch its job easily, while still having the list available. It would add a great deal of character and charm to the game increasing the connection between the player and their beavers. Some suggestions would be builders with construction hats, foresters with overalls, farmers with straw hats, etc.
I would also like to be able to lock the camera into position on the tilt view. Other than that, very well done. Nice and smooth controls. I find the options menu & UI along with its setting to be top notch and has outdone most games in that functio -

AT MergedHi!
1
I work in a mobile gamedev company, and we spend a lot of time working on the visual aspect of the game. After bingeplaying timberborn for for the entire weekend straight, I loved it a lot, but I feel like it needs to be less 'Banished' and more 'Frostpunk' in terms of visual aesthetics and immersion. Please consider spending hiring some people/dedicating more time towards implementing more
1. motion art (i.e. animations),
2. making smoother transitions (i.e. when water enter an empty tile, when building is finished building/destroying, when crop is collected, etc).
3. Also, the fact that the map is floating in some blue infinity makes it feel like I'm literally playtesting a pre-release internal build in Unity, and ruins the entire immersion. At least add some texture of forrest going into the horizon or prevent the camera of going there or whatever.
Otherwise, you're doing a great project and I hope you're enjoying the process, because we're definitely enjoying playing! C -

Nando MergedI'm sure most of these ideas have been thought of by the devs or otherwise suggested elsewhere, but here goes a few related suggestions:
- when gathered in a social context, on a rooftop terrace for instance, animate beavers as if they're having a conversation (instead of staring blankly in the sky)
- after working hours, have kits join their parents to activities (animate them walking together and sit together in a carousel for instance)
- maybe have beavers living in the same block (set of power-connected lodges) salute each other occasionally, for instance a hauler walking nearby a carrot field would wave to the farmer harvesting there -

Nando MergedAnother idea to make the map look more alive, and something in tune with the "philosophy" associated with beavers, that they create a rich environment favorable not only to them, but to many other species in the ecosystem:
- make birds and frogs visible, not just audible, even if it's only sporadically: for instance, when a beaver swims or walks near a cattail plant, have a frog jump away and disappear again in a nearby aquatic plant. Similarly, when a beaver walks near some tree, occasionally have a bird dart out of it and disappear into the foliage of another. -

Kevin MergedWould be cool to see the occasional conversation between beavers or even a small fight, causing injuries or chipped teeth, especially if very hungry, thirsty, tired, or homeless. Would make the town feel more alive.
Maybe a fighting arena for the ironteeth, instead of the temple? lol -

Ti MergedFor games like these where we mostly see our little guys from far away, it's nicer for their animations to be very expansive and exaggerated, so they're more readable and satisfying.
From fantasy examples like Warcraft even to more down-to-earth ones like Age of Empires, every action should have a particular rhythm, silhouette, and noise signature. It's very satisfying to have you base building become this orchestra of sounds and movements that really "feels" like work and progress. -

Jaco3011Idling animations
Currently, only foresters have their unique thing to do when idle. Some of it would require redesigning parts of buildings, which I'm aware is a time-consuming task
- Farmers chilling in hammock at the back side of the farmhouse.
- Various buildings' workers (water pumps, sawmills, gear workshops, smelters, plank treating facilities, IT engines) oiling parts of their workplaces
- Builders, haulers form posts and distribution centers playing cards
- Paper makers and/or printers playing with paper planes.
Generic idling in the doorway also can be changed to include
- stretching legs or backs from time to time
- smoking a cig or pipe
- yawning
- checking a checklist
- trying to do a lift-up on the doorway (note: don't enable on flags and other places with no doorway)
job-specific animations:
- paper makers and/or printers doing origami
- printers reading a book.
- lumberjacks nibbling a stick
- pharmacist drinking something from a bottle (or realizing that it's empty) -

SSmithBringing this around to include building threshold merge animations. Right now the beavers come up to the doorways of warehouses, pools, exercise arenas and just blip into the next animation. Being able to follow the same beaver as they walk up to the diving platform and jump in would be a fantastic... maybe make the entrance into the ware/storehouses dark so they disappear into it with a quick fade.
Diving into Lido pools and using ladder to climb out.
Climbing in/out of decontamination pool.
Walking to seats in the bonfires and terraces.
Walking up to and turning to have their backs scratched on the posts.
