"Rock Fur" underground / cave centric faction.
a faction to take advantage of the new 3D terrain and water physics. mostly rely on aquatic crops or underground based food (mushrooms, roots, etc.) this would make any underground "farms" only make a set amount of food till endgame or with a underground upgrade mechanic. most of their buildings have to be built on solid ground as they prefer their infrastructure underground (and underwater) to preserve the surface. heavy terrain excavation and relocation. special structures could be things they expand on by layer (ex: having a building that can be modified to extend 1-2 more blocks below up to a total of 2 or 3 upgrades) or upgrade mechanic where they get better at efficiency and space saving (just an excuse to produce more) at the cost of longer production times. power generation can be done similar to ironteeth engines but smaller, less efficient, and having to use biofuel (proccessed for better fuel efficiency or composted for quicker fuel production). thats all i got so far.

Had a similar idea last night while I couldn't sleep, since it already exists as an idea here, I'm just going to post my thoughts as a comment.
Glad other people already had the same idea :D
For names I came up with either "Underpaws" or "Deepdammers", but I actually like "Rockfurs" more I think :)
I've attached a file with my full thoughts, since it was more than 1000 characters (about 2h of no sleep). But here is a summary:
Main Advantage:
- Can immediately destroy dirt / build tunnels, but takes some time
Reproduction:
- depends on underground area, i.e. how large your tunnel system is
Food:
- Mushrooms
Light sensitivity:
- Work slower during the day (outside)
- Is later fixed by a resource like for example: hats
- Sleep at noon, work at night
Energy:
- Either solar based (the irony)
- or biofuel from mushrooms
Movement (like Ziplines / Tubes):
- Minecarts
Other Ideas:
- Good at mining metal, get access to mines sooner
- Mineral Grotto for wellbeing, requires underground + water -

NobodyA debuf when they are on the top layer with a short cooldown 6h or so.
"Natural light, get it off me, get it off me."
Would need to playtest that to see if its more frustrating than fun.
