Please bring back Natural Overhangs
While I realize that terrain overhangs are probably better for performance, I propose we should have both. The latest update broke many U6 maps and saves because terrain overhangs are not permeable, and do not allow water beneath them like natural overhangs. I think terrain overhangs will be great for cave maps, tunnels, etc. However, natural overhangs serve a purpose too. They are one of the few blocks that does not irrigate, which can be useful for both aesthetics and gameplay. They can also be used the same way as blockages, but blocking water vertically. While you can block water with terrain blocks, this reduces the options for early game-play as natural overhangs didn't require dynamite to remove. It is no longer possible to make small bridges over a shallow stream in the map maker. Additionally, the ability to build arches with natural overhangs is very aesthetically pleasing. Maps based around ruins just don't look as good without them. Please bring them back!

Bring them back. They looked pretty and made maps look more natural than the Minecraft block junk now that looks like a child's play box. -

Yaz MergedBring back the natural overhangs as buildable alternatives to the Overhangs (e.g. using dirt) so we can continue to make nice-looking arches!

Framistan MergedThe recent experimental overhang update is a nice thought but has a few problems with it.
It's now really easy to make overhangs by mistake by clicking on the side of another block. Placing terrain is tricky now, and can be fiddly to get right. It can get annoying.
Also, you can no longer click and drag terrain on top of other terrain to get the precise shape of the underlying terrain. Say, you want a dam at an angle, you can no longer just click and drag. This will now give you a rectangular overhang instead of an L-shaped dam.
Finally, the overhangs with curved undersides look nicer than the new, rectangular ones.
I'd like the old overhangs back, and the option to build them. The current buildable overhangs are made of metal and differ from stone overhangs in that they let fluids through, both from above and from behind. The latter makes a difference if you want them as part of a dam. Stone overhangs could require the same materials plus some dirt. -

Jude JohnsonIf I had to choose between the terrain overhang feature vs. the natural overhang, I'd chose terrain.
However, I really hope natural overhangs are reintroduced. Allowing water to flow through all but the anchor block was incredibly useful and the aesthetics were amazing. -

StratusI have been waiting 20 minutes to be allowed to vote now darn it! Let me vote!
The new system looks goofy, breaks a LOT of maps, and makes placing terrain blocks frustrating, not a good change. -

KaiLoaded up two different saves that are now broken due to what I saw as a bug with natural overhangs -- suddenly they're all solid blocks. Google/Reddit directed me here and it seems they were removed?
Why?
Natural overhangs are an amazing map maker feature, and make for incredible map designs for players to work with. Removing them and replacing them with solid dirt blocks all over the place has effectively ruined many maps. -

BrandonThe new tweak to dirt overhangs in the latest patch is *not* sufficient.
For one thing, it's so subtle I honestly thought you'd accidentally forgotten to add the right screen shot. It's in no way comparable to the arches natural overhangs offered.
Secondly, while your changelog indicates you think natural overhangs were 'flawed' because they didn't irrigate, contaminate and could be removed without dynamite, those are exactly part of the reasons why they were useful to map makers.
In addition to their ability to serve as early game bridges, they offered a number of unique game play tools for map makers to set up interesting challenges with. All tools which are now lost to us.
Several of my personal maps are now basically ruined by the loss of these techniques (whereas before I'd been excitedly working on them to integrate all the new changes update 7 has brought). Please, please bring them back! -

AllieToday there was another update to U7 which tried to address this feedback a bit. I definitely appreciate the effort, but stand by my request for the original natural overhangs. They still function differently and I believe natural overhangs and overhanging terrain both serve a purpose on maps. The natural overhangs have interesting game play effects as previously mentioned and I think they are worth the effort to keep in the game. Just my opinion though. I don't know the inner workings or how much work that actually is.

Kunalcan the overhangs "natural" as well as "beaver made overhangs" both coexist, similar to "natural stairs" and "beaver made stairs"
default in map can be natural and whatever built by player can be manmade . just like stairs.
also, combination of "drag to place terrain" is broken by "drag to make overhang" now a) sometime it can unintentionally make overhang when we only wanted to place dirt on top of existing dirt, b) as items cant be built by beavers under the dirt, if we place say a sluice and covered with dirt, beaver may build dirt in overhang mode first, before sluice and then sluice becomes unreachable. -

Adam OlsenConverting shallow overhangs to sand or some other sort of porous-but-walkable debris pile could be the solution. Mapmakers use overhangs to let players cross shallow rivers without giant constructions and converting just that situation (overhang sitting on ground) into an equivalent porous-but-walkable block would work.
Heck, using a platform would work too, just not as pretty. -

WinchesterHaving wanted to get my mind a bit cleared out, I decided to play some Timberborn again after quite some time. And noticed that the natural overhangs are now both gone and replaced with something else.
Even if it is purely for aeshetic reasons, and nothing else. I would like to have them back. I'd be even more thrilled if I could build them myself in the end game (same for the natural stairs. When you're mining dirt and are able to place dirt blocks, why not stairs?)
Do seriously hope this is being considered. Cause I would hate to simply bring up the Dev Tool to add them in for aesthetic purposes. -
